I bet Orlando is wondering why this couldn't have gone down 13 years ago tbh.

At least Timmy's kept it together on the court and hasn't pulled a Pau when he was getting cuckolded by Shannon Brown.

Why is everyone assuming Amy cheated? No one has ever seen a marriage with kids (huge stressor on a relationship) and one partner who travels frequently (huge stressor on a relationship, huge stressor on parenting dynamic) crumble? Really? FFS, Amy broke up with Tim when he joined the NBA specifically because she didn't think their relationship could handle the strain of the NBA life. After 12 years, one might think the marriage was solid, but there you go. Maybe not so much after all. Maybe they had differing ideas about what life post-NBA would look like. Maybe they grew apart. Why is it being assumed that the wife cheated? Or anyone cheated?

    Bah.

Yeah, the court docs are pretty convincing. I'm not sure there is another interpretation, though I chuckled at the line about Tim Duncan having a son named Draven who was maybe born in 2007 but being unable to confirm the date. Yeah, Amy was very visibly pregnant during the 2007 Finals and there was a very sweet picture of the two of them with confetti falling taken then.

As for their divorce, it's shocking in some ways and completely unsurprising in others. Statistically, they were very likely to be divorced, and none of us really know them. I'm sorry for them and for their kids that their marriage didn't work out, but it happens. It sounds like they are trying for a low-key, amicable divorce. I hope that they are able to remain good partners in parenting for their kids. Given that divorces and the dissolution of a marriage doesn't happen overnight, I doubt this impacts Tim terribly on the court. I still think it's ridiculous that the EN felt this was something that needed to be publicized today.
If this is true Tim being so close to retirement makes this even more sad. They kept it together for all those years he was on the road during a long and tough season now he has maybe 1 year to go and they may be divorcing. Very sad..

Who knows it's best not to speculate. So many people myself included regard Tim as one of the classiest athletes of all time so we don't want to lump him in with the typical a-hole athlete that is married but cheating left and right. I doubt that is what happened very much..

Yeah, but these days a lot of couples go through trouble when retirement looms. The big difference is that retirement occurs a lot faster in the NBA. An earlier generation mostly kept quiet and stayed married because that is what you did. These days, couples are far more likely to divorce. Add in young people (relatively - 35 and 37 are not that old) and there is a lot of life left to be lived. No idea if that played a role, but it's a huge shift in the dynamics of a relationship to go from months of travel and back and forth and on the road to nothing really except whatever you want to do.

I don't think the same stressors apply to multi-millionaires. And the deal with Amy breaking it off with Tim back in college had to do with Amy not wanting to be an 'NBA wife' who gets cheated on with Duncan having a girl in every port, so-to-speak. Duncan promised he would be faithful and never do that to her. Pretty in ironic.

People seriously worried about it affecting his play? lol

Papers were filed months ago and they've probably had problems for years just like most married couples these days.

Just let it go and leave him be.
It's a good sign he was with his kids pre-game before game 1 so if this is true they seem to be proceeding in a friendly manner. Tim is the ultimate pro, nothing mentally would effect his play..

I promise you that if they have any interaction with their children and are not just handing them off to a nanny (and photographic evidence suggests they are pretty hands-on parents), then children are stressors. And traveling and lack of stable schedule are huge stresses on a relationship. Some relationships cope with that better than others. But again - if they are hands-on parents, traveling affects that relationship. Money makes a lot of things easier (they aren't concerned with making mortgage payments if Tim gets injured on the job, for instance), but it doesn't eliminate the basic stresses of human interactions in a relationship.

I feel sorry for their kids. Tim seems to be such a devoted family man. I don't like that the E-N dug this up. They should have respected Tim's privacy for all he's done for this city. Leave it to other sites/publications to dig something like this up.

I understand what you are saying, but ball players are home more than they are away. Prob on the road 1/4 of the year. Off on summers. If anything was troubling/stressing the relationship it was probably Duncan's video game obsession

It all makes sense to me. Tim saying he's going to play mad while showing a lack of confidence at times. His teammates need a rally behind him.
