You should also post the clip where Glen Greenwald undresses and rapes Bill Maher on the subject.

    You referring to this?

GLENN GREENWALD: How can you be a citizen of the United States, the country that has generated more violence and militarism in the world over the last five or six decades and say, 'Look at those people over there. They are incredibly violent.' We play a significant role in what is happening in the Middle East because we've been interfering and dominating that region is order to have access to their oil and protect Israel.

BILL MAHER: Well, I wasn't talking about violence, I was just talking about theocracy. That doesn't happen here.

GREENWALD: Okay, that doesn't happen here, but at the same time, Iran isn't invading lots of other countries and occupying them for a decade. Nor are fundamentalist Muslim countries like the United States is. These things are interlinked because we're continuously interfering in that part of the world. So to say --

MAHER: So it's all our fault?

GREENWALD: It's not all our fault, but when you send your military for 6 straight decades into other countries to bomb them, kill their children and women and innocent men, prop up dictators.

    [CROSSTALK]

GREENWALD: Yeah, you take responsibility for your actions and say to the extent of that region --

MAHER: That religion goes back a 1,000 years before our revolution. So, I don't think we can take all the blame.

GREENWALD: I don't think we should. I think we should take a lot of it. And there's been lots of bodies and corpses that have piled up in the name of Christianity and Judaism as well.

    MAHER: Not recently.

GREENWALD: Have you heard about the occupation of the West Bank and Gaza for the last 50 years -- motivated in part by extremists views by Judaism? Or the wars in Europe? Or generals in the United States saying we have to go invade and destroy Iraq, a country of 26 million people, because our God is bigger?

Lots of religions, not just Islam, produce violence.

MAHER: Well, it's that silly liberal view that all religions are alike because it makes you feel good.

GREENWALD: No, it makes you feel good to say our side is better.

MAHER: No, it makes you feel good to put a crown on your head and say, 'I'm a good person, how do I prove that?'

GREENWALD: You get to ignore the responsibility that your own government has for the violence and instability in the world by saying, 'Look, it's that primitive religion over there that's to blame.' (HBO's Real Time, May 10, 2013)

Yeah, you can blame the USA and its interests for Islamic terrorism, but that still doesn't explain why people get killed over cartoons.

Bush's war only strengthened Islam more. He took out a secular dictator in Iraq and turned it into another haven for Islamic extremists.
Yes,you are right on that one.Islam and muslims need to be extinct. It's like time never moved for these people..They are still stuck in 1000 B.C.

Islam was never ushered out of the dark ages by a scientific renaissance like Christianity was. That's the big difference. It's a total myth that Christianity became less extreme and modernized on its own. It fought tooth and nail against stuff like the world being round, Earth rotating around the sun, the world being more than 6,000 years old, the theory of evolution, etc.

If Christianity had its way we'd be teaching, "Six thousand years ago god created a flat planet Earth as the center of the universe!" in science classes.

Again, I'm not defending Communism. I freely admit that the USSR and China killed their citizens intentionally, too.

I agree with all of this, and as I've said earlier I'm an atheist,so I'm not here to defend Christianity.

All I'm saying is: No religion other than Islam continues to kill in the name of their "God". Buddhists never did,Christians grew out of it, and Jews, well, they have to fight back.Muslims in 2013 go into London and kill a "soldier" in the name of Mohamed.A ing drummer!

I don't totally disagree with what you're saying, but clinging to long-held beliefs is not unique to Christianity.

Agreed. All religions cling to long-held primitive beliefs. Orthodox Jews still think women should be stoned to death if they don't dress correctly while Saudi Arabia actually does stone women to death for dressing incorrectly.

    I've never heard that before.

Also, it's not just religious people that cling to long-held beliefs. The scientific "consensus" was that stress caused peptic ulcers until just very recently.

Did you even read your own post? Most of the people being killed were terrorists or were harboring terrorists.
    Meh. Nice troll attempt.

They weren't doing any such thing. The fact that you would say such an obviously, provably false and overall immoral thing, does nothing but demonstrate you don't want to be taken seriously, and/or are just trying to say such things for jollies.

Not going to bother with that, but thanks for playing.

No one here hates the American Cons ution, but in all honesty, why do you hate Western Civilization? You keep looking away from the atrocities committed in the name of islam and keep trying to shift focus to anything else hoping that we'll forget what this thread is about. Would you like to stay on subject and discuss why islam refuses to grow and adapt with the modern World?
LOL telling an atheist that he is a muslim apologist.

    That's funny.

I think Western civilization with its discovery and encourangement of secularism is a really really good thing.

I do tend to lump islam and christianity in the same bloody bucket though. I don't see much difference between the two if one gets down to the fundamental tenets in their respective holy books.

That said, the only reason Christianity today tends to be less violent, is that enough people have abandoned its central teachings in favor of a more secular morality.

Islamic countries have not done so, and it is a chicken/egg conundrum. You cannot have true prosperity if you do not have a secular society, and you cannot have a secular society if you are poor and uneducated.

Muslims who have abandoned the literal morals of their holy book and have embraced a more secular sense of what is right and wrong, i.e. moderates, aren't that much different in overall worldviews from most moderate Christians.

That is what I actually believe. If you want to continue a few more strawman arguements, you will not have the excuse of ignorance.

... and shockingly enough their minds were changed through better evidence changing the consensus.

It is a human tendency overall to resist new information, and a particular failing of modern conservatism that it does so to a much greater degree than liberals. The very notion of being "conservative" implies such.

he did it in the name of foreign policy, doesn't make the crime any less tragic or chilling but I wouldn't call this Islamic Terrorism. Too many sheep in this thread that don't think for themselves. Islam has looniest of loonies when it comes to religon but his speech on "British foreign policy etcc.." and murder doesn't differentiate it from Cartel murders which follow even more brutality against govt employees investigating them.

I'm saying that you determine accuracy based solely upon whether or not something conforms to your pre-existing assumptions and prejudices. I'm saying that you, Avante, of the general Fresno region, are not the arbiter of truthfulness in depictions and/or representations of the Muslim experience. I'm saying that this book, and the other evidence you have presented in support of your claim, is henpecked and anecdotal and, therefore, neither representative of nor applicable to the whole of Islam or the Muslim world.

Islam has been a bloody war-thirsty religion since it's inception and it hasn't changed in hundreds of years. Nothing that has happened in the last few years has shown that their primitive and uncivilized religion can ever change. There is no excuse to your ignorance. If you choose to stick your head in the sand and pretend that all religions are as primitive as islam, then that's your choice, but the rest of us with an open mind can see it for what it is, a ing disgrace against humanity.

Hen pecked? or books I just happen to come across in yardsales/thrift shops because that's where I bought all of them? What are the odds of me finding random books on the topic and all pretty much saying the same things? So why so many books on Islam and all shining a negative light?

So you are telling me all those x-Muslims who lived that life are lying about why they left? You do know there are tons and tons and tons of that same sort of thing all over youtube, right? You do know the prioblems London is having with Islam, right? So you don't read the papers or watch the news?

I don't have to hen peck? anything it's all right there, and we all can see it are you telling me you don't? How many 9/11's, suicide bombing, beheading on youtube, stonings, Boston bombing, London street hackings, death to sexuals does it take for you to start dealing with real life?

Below is from the Koran, there are at least 300 other passages similiar to this one.

    paste

I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve. Therefore strike off their heads and strike off every fingertip of them"
