Gasol won due to minutes, it was a fair choice..

However, as I've said all year, he's the most overrated big man in the NBA and it probably isn't close, tbh..

Duncan is the best big man in the league, though..pretty amazing that he looked like a role player in the 2 or 3 previous seasons..

The media voting is just a joke in the NBA.. Tim has made a million all defense teams yet guys that can't say that have won DPOY over him..

Duncan not winning DPOY is sort of like Jerry Sloan never winning COY.

This year has only been the second-biggest joke. The biggest was Marcus Camby winning over Tim in 2007.

Doesn't matter, except some doofus (Bill Simmons) is likely going to continue to insist that Kevin Garnett was a better defensive player.

To be fair, a lot of the Marc for DPOY was based around providing A- defense for a lot more minutes being more value than A level defense for a shorter period of time. People generally weren't saying Marc is the best defensive player in the league.

It's still ridiculous that he's never won. Probably because it's not a shock for him not to make mistakes, and, voters are DUMB. People had Serge Ibaka ahead of him, which is incredibly stupid.

Marc Gasol played fantastic defense in this series and completely neutralized Timmy in iso situations. He's a great defensive player and he deserved the award, but I think that Timmy deserved it too. I think Timmy coming in 6th was just ridiculous, and it goes to show just how overlooked he is by the sports media. How about the fact that neither guy made the 1st team but Ch ndler did? Ridiculous.

... that Tim Duncan not having a DPOY to his name is the biggest fvckin' bullsh!t in all of sporting history.

Fat Gasol was the DPOY? Duncan just anchored a defense that played the best defensive series in a conference finals since -- maybe ever.

    WTF.
The defense was good no doubt but the Grizzlies lack of an offensive game outside of Gasol/Randolph. They're a very flawed team that relies on the other team turning the ball over on offense.

The Spurs carved them up considering Memphis is one of the top defensive teams. Backdoor cuts for layups. Pullup jumpers. Pick-n-roll. Pick-n-pop. And the Hammer! The Spurs offense looked like the offense that was rolling through the league onto 20 consecutive wins. Lots of motion, slick passes all the way around. The difference is this year they brought the defense to match. Incredible!

Gasol shut Timmy Down in one-on-one situations (although rare) all series long, and his length really bothered Timmy. Gasol played fairly well in this series, especially defensively.

I don't want Tim Duncan winning that award anymore. Would tarnish his legacy IMO

I've always said that, in terms of awards, it's the greatest travesty in the history of sports. It's beyond laughable that the guy who's had the longest sustained impact defensively since Russell (and no disrespect to him, but look at the era he did it in) doesn't have not just one, but a handful.

And the whole minutes argument for Gasol is nonsense. I'd buy that if Duncan were a 20 mpg player, but we're talking about a 30 mpg starter. Rewards should be about rewarding excellence, not very good.

It is clear and has been clearer that TD is the best defensive player in the league this season.

I guess that the only two reasons he didn't win this time were the lack of his playing time (30 minutes per game) and the relatively small number of games he played (69 games).

Had he played 33 something minutes and played 74~75 games, he would have easily won it.

The offense is also less predictable this year.
