A new Gallup survey shows significant changes in the way we Americans see ourselves.

    The big news?

We don’t like to call ourselves economic conservatives as much as we used to; in fact, that number is at a five-year low. On top of that, more of us say we're social liberals.

Today, there’s a widespread feeling of skepticism about the form of capitalism we’re saddled with, which works well for a few and causes the rest of us various kinds of misery. Many Americans are beyond sick and tired of bankers, financiers and political hucksters. We see that crony capitalism is destroying our communities, our democracy, our economic well-being, and the natural world.

the conservatives, always representing the 1%, think they are en led to rape and plunder the economy and the 99%'s wealth without govt restraints. and "en lements" (when applied to the poor) is a pejorative term from the VRWC phrase-makers.

I disagree. I would think they would be inclined to become more economically conservative by necessity, but when the subsidies to their lifestyle flow, they don't have to be.

of course, as you live at or below the poverty line, you are forced (no Freedom for marans! ) to conserve your resources, and be very welcoming/grateful of any humane, progressive supports from society. (Most SNAP recipients are WHITE, not brown or black, and many of them are red-state rurals who vote conservatively.)

but personally conservative, forced/unfree economic behavior has NOTHING TO DO with govt-hating conservatism, govt austerity as a national policy.
