People hate political correctness, but a huge portion of the population still gets upset if Christianity is promoted through the public sphere.

He is an employee of a company that spends millions on projecting an image exactly the opposite of what he made light of.

Having stated the above the NBA again hands out arbitrary fines to a young kid that I very much doubt is phobic. An apology should have been enough. He was not trying to take another players head off like Wade. Just a big dumb child...

Jesus Christ, gots are a sensitive group.

I certainly wouldn't be offended if a was saying something and then said, "no hetero".
They would more likely say "No hets." As in "a lotta hets around here."

Or, more likely, no "breeders." As in "My god, there are a lotta breeders around here. Let's go."

it seems to me that the league just want to let the game decide itself for the post season. birdman is by far the only player who got suspended this post season imho and he only got one-game suspension.

Is this the "we have a responsibility to tolerate the intolerant" argument?
Who's intollerant? WBC is, but they aren't representative of the large majority of Christians.

My apologies, I did misunderstand what he was arguing for.

Anyone who thinks they're promoting "tolerance" by attacking Christianity is an idiot. Promotion of Christianity to the exclusion of other faiths by public ins utions is inappropriate, but that's just the establishment clause of the First Amendment.

    Paul Garcia PS @24writer
"Pacers' Hibbert fined $75k by NBA for using inappropriate and vulgar language following Gm 6 of Pacers’ 91-77 victory over the Miami Heat."

That was quicker than birdman getting ejected for trying to get ina fight during an actual game. Oh my bad Hibbert plays for Indiana.

Agreed. I may have misfollwed stuff btw. I thought the tollerance of intollerant was referring to Christianity cause many people seem to think that.

There's a world of difference between using "no " in a live interview and calling Jason Collins a " got" in a live interview after playing his team. The latter probably would get someone suspended, and that would be totally reasonable. "No " is inappropriate at best, but it's not an actual slur.
Exactly! At max he deserves a 5k fine...and thats mostly motivated by the "mother ers" comment to the press. The "no " thing stacks with that to maybe make a fine happen. But by itself, it's nothing more than a phone call from somebody at the league office to say, "dude, lighten up and watch your mouth. Seriously, please don't say like that."

Wow, just saw the 75k thing. Thats absolutely ridiculous!

So Tony Allen only got fined 5k for his antics, but Hibbert gets fined 75k for saying "no ". I'm losing faith in humanity.

Stern won't suspend Hibbert 'cause if he does, the suspense, excitement and the ratings for the impending game 7 would vanish.

Is this the "we have a responsibility to tolerate the intolerant" argument?
Not sure if being misunderstood, or...

    Just to reiterate, I:

    1. Believe that "political correctness" is a two-sided affair. Side A: Don't be an asshole. Side B: Don't get offended by assholes.

    2. It's an observation of mine that, quite often (but not always), the people who shout the loudest in opposition to the push for political correctness in public forums are also the ones who are offended when their idea of Judeo-Christian decorum isn't mandated or simply held in higher regard than other moralities or faith systems. As a socially liberal atheist, I find that ongoing struggle rather amusing, in a disappointing way.

While I usually believe this forum (mostly NBA forum) is pretty racist, phobic and sexist, what Hibbert said wasn't a slur. Old people today don't keep up with the young people terms. "No " isn't a slur, it's just a joke. It's similar to "that's what she said." It's something you say to point out your previous statement can be construed sexually.

    Examples:

I was taking a pounding under the basket... that's what she said.
We were banging hard under the basket, no .

If he used " gots" then there might be something there. It's really about context and in this context, there was no attack, it was just an immature joke in a press conference. The media and the league are definitely blowing this out of proportion probably because they want to desperately show they are pro-gay like the younger generation. But it's the younger generation that came up with the term and they are the most supportive of gay rights. Hibbert's comment was inappropriate and unprofessional but hardly worth such a heavy fine, especially when floppers only get a $5000 fine. He should have only gotten a $10,000 fine for cussing and making an inappropriate comment but the way the media is lambasting him and rushing to the defense of gay people is quite hilarious.

People like Mark Jackson who say that God doesn't want you to be gay is far more destructive.

I agree the fine is out of line.... 5-10k at most.. Tony Allen's antics should have merited the 75K. I'm sure Chumpdumper will have a basketball take on this. He always does.
