"Thursday's Game 1 of the NBA Finals between the San Antonio Spurs and Miami Heat drew a 10.6 overnight rating, according to the Nielsen Company.
The Spurs beat the Heat 92-88.
The rating was the third highest for a Game 1 since 2004 but down 10 percent from last year's NBA Finals opener between the Heat and Oklahoma City Thunder, according to Sports Business Daily.
Last year's Game 1 had an 11.8 overnight rating.
Thursday night's game peaked at a 13.1 rating during the conclusion between 11:30 p.m. and 11:45 p.m. ET.
The game scored a 34.0 local rating in Miami, the best Game 1 rating ever for that market. In San Antonio, the game had a 35.3 rating."

That's the percentage of total TV households, regardless of whether someone's home. If you go over to a sports bar or a neighbor's house to have a viewing party, your dormant TV at home counts against the rating. The share of the TVs actually being watched is probably astronomical.
