It's on them to develop the players they get. They already have an entire unit of young players with upside. They can afford to let Martin's overrated production go.

It won't really matter if they can produce when their frontcourt is a liability.

Kevin Martin is like Chris Bosh. It's a waste for their teams to pay them big money and then not utilise all their talents.

Both are excellent offensive players, but have been relegated to being spot up shooters. If you want a spot up shooter, you don't need to pay $10m+ for one. For the role they have to fill, the Thunder would be much better suited picking up a player like Danny Green off the NBA scrapheap for the minimum and spend that money better elsewhere.

Sure, and they have a few young front court players to develop. If they add another in the draft (like maybe Gobert), then their success can be sustainable. Otherwise, they can try to S&T Martin to get another big and amnesty Perkins.

So they traded Harden because they wouldn't be able to sign him and got a guy that they knew they wouldn't be able to sign? Why not just keep Harden for the season if you're gonna end up with the same result?

That was just Presti thinking he was smarter than he really is. He got incredibly lucky the day he stepped into the GM position, as Portland picked Oden, and all he had to do was pick Durant. He drafted Jeff Green who's style is somewhat similar to Durant's which made him redundant, traded him for Perkins . So he essentially traded Jeff Green AND James Harden for Perkins. Trying to play hardball with Harden by giving him a deadline to decide whether to sign is probably the biggest backfire of a powerplay in a lonngggg time.

You're life must be pretty ty.

Jeremy lamb = future superstar (able to play 2-guard, too)

Besides, Martin knows who he is playing with, he won't chuck like he had to when playing for a team like the Rockets.

It's just funny how little they're getting for Harden..maybe they get lucky and Lamb or this pick pans out like Marc Gasol did, but right now its looking like they hit diddly..

I don't think Danny Green is considered an 'NBA scrapheap' type of player anymore

But you make a good point. Why pay Kevin Martin that salary when he's basically gonna be Mo Williams?

the jury is still out for Jeremy Lamb. Having a for brains coach like schitty brooks hinders young player development. The hardon for overplaying Reggie Jackson and a fossilized version in Fish does that to a young player.

Danny Green isn't, but I'm sure there are plenty of similar players out there. Bowen was another one the Spurs picked up for the minimum.

3&D guys aren't that tough to find because they generally have such limited upside. Get rid of KMarts $12m and replace him with an equally good 3 point shooter with better defence and the Thunder are no worse off and $11m richer.
