All we have to do is find a U.S. college standout that will be available with the 28th pick that can play at an All Star level and will be ready to come in and start for us from day one. There isn't much compe ion for guys like that, so it shouldn't be a problem.

Baynes isn't American, and from what we've seen of him, he seems to be quite physical in the paint. Guys like Kareem weren't physical centers, and yet they averaged 12+ rebounds at one point in their careers.

Baynes arrived a little too late into the season to develop.

Baynes could play. I mean, I dont think Pop is asking Tiago to score 20 points. Just let him play and get 15 rebounds.
Maybe he can stop those tip-in from Bosh and his the superfriends.
The fact that Mills and TMac are available and not Baynes is amazing to me. Like TMac knows the system better than Baynes. And a playmaker needs to know the system more than a center, so that excuse doesnt make sense.
Baynes is gonna spend years before playing, just like Tiago.
Lets just hope Baynes doenst end up on another team and owns Tiago when we play them.

I hope we can find a way to trade up for Rudy Gobert.
He's European, but the guy has size and the longest wingspan I've ever seen. His shot blocking would be elite.

I suspect Baynes will have a much larger role with the team next season, but he's still pretty raw, talent wise. Wish things were different, but getting acclimated into the Spurs system takes a while.

I suspect that out of Blair, Bonner, Splitter, and Diaw, at least 2 out of the 4 will not be back next season. Just a hunch. Unless they go after a SG in the draft, I suspect the Spurs will draft a big man and sign a decent name in FA.

However, if Timmy retires after this season, throw everything I just said out the window, because I have no idea how the Spurs are going to handle the post-Duncan era.

Yes, we can definitely draft the 7 footer we've all wanted with the 28th pick in the draft and he'll be ready to go by training camp. Because no other team would have use for a big, strong, and skilled 7 footer.

Spurs need to try and move up in the June NBA draft in order to secure a better quality big. Perhaps R.C. and Danny Ferry can work something out.
With Neals value up, would you throw him and this years 1st for maybe someone like a Portland or a Minnesota pick in this years?

He also has a lot of room for his offensive game to grow.

Boy, it sure is a tempting proposition and something I believe the front office must consider. I realize this team needs to invest in another SG, but getting another young, big in their pipeline - quickly - should be the priority. A young big that possesses the skills necessary to do some of the things Duncan is no longer able to do on a consistent basis and things that Splitter simply isn't capable of doing at all.

There are several project bigs that I'm sure they are interested in, but they all will likely be gone by the time the Spurs pick @ #28. There are several teams looking to trade down and there are even a couple with multiple picks in the first round (ATL, OKC, CLE). If they can work out the principals of a trade with one of those teams, and depending upon which big is available, I'd certainly pull the trigger on such a deal. This would be similar to the George Hill trade, when they moved up to take Kawhi Leonard. If Leonard wouldn't have been on the board, then they would not have done the deal.

I admit I've been hard on Gary Neal and after his NBA Finals performance, his stock has never been higher. I'd love for the Spurs to keep him. However, in order to restock the cupboard, some bold moves must be made.

I'm pulling for splitter to do good but I'm just don't know if he's gonna make it happen for us. Blair would have been good but his height just isn't gonna work for us. Anyone else agree that it's time we draft ourselves a big badass UNITED STATES OF AMERICAN that isn't afraid to bully opponents in the paint? I think it's time. Timmy's been the man to fill this role for the longest time, but with his age becoming a factor it's time we give him a player to groom to take his place, because I just don't know if splitter is up to the task, as much as I'd hate to say it.

28 Tony Mitc PF North Texas Sop re 6-9 236

It's tough to get a read on what direction the Spurs will go here. They could opt for a raw international talent such as Greece's Giannis Adetokunbo or France's Mouhammadou Jaiteh, someone they could stash overseas for a year or two years like Manu Ginobili, Tiago Splitter or Luis Scola. Or they could opt for someone who can play right away. Mitc doesn't fit the Spurs' mold -- he admitted he didn't always play hard last year at North Texas -- but he is a 6-9, 236-pound man-child with undeniable inside-out skills and tantalizing talent (he compares himself to Denver's Kenneth Faried). Those abilities could make him worth the risk.
