They are always one of the last teams in fouls and they have the least fouls per game in the playoffs this year.

it has always been the case. They had Bowen the hacking machine and Duncan gets away with murder but they never call fouls against them. Suns and Mavs fans can back me up but Laker fans already know the truth.

Whats the secret for not getting called for hacks?

The problem is, you have your head up your ass and you miss a lot of what happens.

What do the Spurs magically do to avoid getting fouls called on them every season?

Actually this is a decent question for the non Spurs fan

    Pop
He is insistent on not fouling. Constantly yelling at players move your feet, don't reach. This is something the Spurs emphasize and have for a long time. Also hostoricaly have not gone for steals.

Bruce in his prime did very little outright hacking. Moved his feet great.

It's because the NBA hype machine loves the Spurs. Nobody is better for ratings than the Spurs and nothing is better for business than more Spurs games every year.

    This is simple.

Jesus how many times has Parker played two great games in series against the lakers, only to have phil " " jackson complain at the press conference, then all the sudden Tony is getting hammered and not getting calls so he stop trying to get to the basket. Laker fans have zero room to talk about refs.

How many times do you see Spurs players hacking at the ball vs the 100% of the time lebron and wade/entire heat team hack at the ball when it's in the paint. The heat almost never get called even though they have to be hitting arm at least 40-60% of the time.

The Spurs get called on bull travels and violations that other teams don't get called on. They had 18 turnovers but probably 6-7 of them were bull offensive fouls and travels on Diaw and the travel on Parker that is a move wade and lebron do every possession.

After all the Sprite and Gatorade commercials for Duncan and Ginobili, the league has to push them in whatever way they can to appease their massive national fanbase. The calls:endorsement ratio formula can be complex so I'm not going to post it here, but David Stern knows what he's doing and giving the Spurs extra help is in the best interest of the league. He says things like he wishes it could be a Lakers vs Lakers finals every year as pure misdirection.

Dude the Spurs have been the least fouling team in the league for years. Pop plays a disciplined defense that require help from other players. No need to reach up, just force the man with the ball to the baseline and get help from the bigs. It has worked for years and will continue to work as long as we have DISCIPLINE and good bigs.

It's a little deeper than "not fouling". The Spurs explicitly teach and value not making it easy for NBA refs to call fouls. Do you see the difference?

The more a player moves his feet and body and stays upright vs. reaching sideways, the fewer fouls will be called. The more a player tries to tip the ball rather than slap down on it, the fewer fouls will be called. The more a player stays on the ground, the fewer fouls will be called.

Here's another example: the last time Tim Duncan played for Team USA, he was consistently being in foul trouble or even fouling out. That is because what he had been trained to do for many years was considered fouling by international refs. Duncan swore he'd never play in that tournament again, which was probably the right thing for him to do.

Any spurs player who fails to move his feet on defense, and/or fails to keep both arms in the air to show that he is not hacking or reaching in fouling does not stay on the team very long.

Lots of players can't/won't play for the Spurs because they are unwilling to buy into the defensive philosophy that the Spurs maintain. They want to practice and play offense but don't want to put the time into developing the skills required on the defensive end of the court. They don't last as Spurs, or they don't come in the first place.

In short, the Spurs don't get called for as many fouls as some other teams do because they work at not fouling while they are defending.
But they will be called for a million fouls in Game 6. Book it.

Am I delusional for thinking the Heat are getting a lot of bull calls?
