At the least I would think he would have to have done something positive for your team/country.
He's some sort of a cultural icon there, he's visited china multiple times and has a huge following. Outside the US people regard him as the GOAT or 2nd GOAT behind MJ

Is it any wonder? While i was in high school I saw the majority of es in our school being just obsessed with Kobe as I am with Scarlett currently. Guys were mostly Rockets fans back then for obvious reasons, but the majority of our es would rather lick kobe's for free (maybe Yao was just not sexy enough to appeal to those es im not sure), and there was only one in my class who was a mav fan

He's the biggest Sports Icon in SE asia. Asian fans in those countries are still nostalgic with everything Jordan. Kobe's the closest to him.
