Clippers refused to give additional 1st-round pick, but ultimately $35M extension for Rivers and $3M-plus Jordan trade kicker played part.

Chris Paul wants to sign as a FA in this lousy franchise, run by a numskull?
Well... uh... I guess it's all simply... "dead" or what? Cheapskates.![]()
That $35 million extension is the nail in the coffin. Sterling doesn't want to invest a lot of $ on coaches.
All these stars demanding left and right is just ridiculous.
Picks would be from Clippers to Celtics, not the other way around.
You have to be crazy if you thought Jordan was worth even close to that much.

Kevin Garnett has been finished, what a ty trade idea by the Clippers.
Apparently Doc's salary wasn't the issue, it was the extra first round pick and the trade kicker, tbh....
I'm perfectly fine with Shaw or even Hollins, plus the Clippers still have all their assets to make other trades.... that being said, the Celtics are still screwed if they don't get this trade done, as this is their only chance to get anything in return for Doc and KG, so I'm not quite buying that it's dead, tbh.... the CP3 trade was also killed once for the asking price supposedly being too high, but we all know what the end result of that was....
I didn't realize teams could trade a coach. Am I just being daft, or what?
The Clips made the right decision imo, Hollins is the best black HC they can get, might actually get in Demonkey and Blake's faces and make them improve.
I think Doc's better than Hollins, but after reading up on Hollins, I don't think he's that bad anymore, tbh.... he's a lot more versatile than I thought, since he had originally tried to coach the Grizzlies as a running team but then adjusted to his personnel and slowed his system down over the years, tbh.... his players also seem to respect him a lot, whereas Vinny was walked all over by his teams, tbh....
The coaching is not big of a deal, whether its Hollins or Doc. Clippers missed out on the opportunity to bring KG and the chance to dump DJ.
I heard Houston was gonna trade Harden to the Lakers for Jerry Buss and Pau Gasol.
Chris Paul is a ing loser. . He's actually ok with the deal falling through

So essentially, this boils down to Ainge being greedy and asking for too much then, like he always does.... if he's smart, he'll get back on the phone and take the Clippers' offer, since the Celtics stand to lose a LOT more than the Clippers do if this trade really doesn't go down, tbh....
not giving up the other number one
I guess after the Cavs fleeced the Clippers a couple of years ago, Los Angeles is determined to never take a bad deal again. But this is crazy at this point. Just make the deal if you want Garnett and Rivers. The Celtics are compromised more than enough.
Arash Markazi was talking about this on ESPN Radio.... he said the deal may still get done, and that the Clippers already had a 5 year, $35 million contract fully worked out with Doc.... the reason they're reluctant to throw in the extra pick is because they wouldn't have a first-rounder for the next four years..... they're also still confident that CP3 will re-sign....
There's no telling what a good coach and some better veteran leadership could do for the Clips. If Pierce shows up for the ride too, it's a freaking home run. Worth the 2 picks and the salary, tbh.
And there's no way the Celtics are getting a lottery pick for KG, because it doesn't make sense to pay that much to rent the last couple of years in KGs career if you aren't going to be playing deep in the playoffs. Hoping you can turn Jordan around with better coaching and adding a couple of so-so picks isn't a terrible return, as long as it's true that Doc doesn't want to stick around for rebuilding and the C's don't want to pay him $7 million a year to coach a lottery team. I mean, the Celtics are going to get crushed over the next few years, but that's pretty much what rebuilding means.
Negotiating tactic. If Paul is going to leave if a deal doesn't get done, the Celtics have the Clippers bent over and they know it. So even if he will leave, they need to pretend he won't.
Huh? That wasn't coming from Celtics sources - it's the Clippers saying he's okay with the deal falling through.... if anything, that helps the Clippers if talks get restarted, because Ainge can't say "do this deal my way or CP3 will leave"....
Sorry if I wasn't clear -- that's exactly what I mean. Even if CP3 really will leave, it's an important negotiating tactic for the Clips to claim that he won't -- otherwise the Celtics can do just what you mentioned.
