"Winning isn't everything. It's the only thing."
-Vince Lombardi
Winning is everything. This is like sitting thru 9 hours of lord of the rings only to watch smeagol push frito into the lava and make away with the ring. Fuk that . And to think the Spurs had a 99% chance to win the game last night with 28 seconds left. Fml.
Winning is everything. But the journey has been a blast.
Winning is everything. Journey is a cool consolation prize, but only if you are beaten by a clearly better team. The journey is worthless if you had a chance to win it all but shot yourself in the foot.
Both are true. Losing would hurt, but putting it into perspective (from the viewpoint of the objective observer, of course), this has already easily been one of the greatest finals series of all time.
Heroics, role player emergence, star player emergence, veteran resurgence, veteran failures, star player failures, coaching matchups, tiny decisions with huge implications, two incredibly even teams, easily the 2 best teams in the league. Even the public agrees — these finals are getting some of the highest TV ratings since Jordan retired.
The Spurs have acquitted themselves well on the national stage frankly. I don't think anyone would seriously begrudge them unless game 7 is a disappointing wire-to-wire blowout that favors the Heat.
Of course, winning is the ideal scenario.
This Spurs team makes a case for both at the same time.
The "journey has been incredible route" is not an option after last night. It's championship or tragedy now.
Or champagne vs shotgun tbh
My feelings, the second is true, but I don't even want to think about it while there's still a chance to satisfy the first.
Winning is everything. Lose and you are no different than every other team except for the NBA champs.
Winning is the ONLY THING!
In this case, winning is everything. We were one bounce away from the le, so it's really hard to say that Miami is the better team. It's easier to appreciate the journey if you are outclassed or simply outplayed by a better team. This series is not one of those cases...
I love this team anyway but if we lose this may come down as "the sports-board someone declared his own suicide and nobody did anything about it".
you have a lot of time to talk about how incredible the journey has been when the job is done. winning is everything until you lose or win.
Winning actually isn't everything IMHO. It's freakin brilliant to win, but it's actually the journey that is what's important - what you learn from it, how you grow, how you respond to adversity.
I'm so damned proud of the Spurs for fighting until the very last minute of the series when most teams would've crumbled in game 7.
I love the Spurs because they stand for the journey. What do you think "pounding the rock" is about?

BTW, get some perspective. Pop-hating is not helpful, nor is hating on our players. They gave everything they had, and sure you can question things with 20/20 hindsight, but that just makes you a pompous arsehole and helps not one whit.
It's not an either or for me, they go hand and hand. Embracing that overwhelming desire to win is what makes the journey so incredible. Great season
Winning is not everything. Working as hard as you can to be as good as you can at every moment is what it's all about. Winning, making money, wordly success, etc., is a by-product of that. This was a great journey and a great season and a great series.
If you've missed the joy of the 16 year journey of the Tim Duncan era, with all of the winning and some of the heartbreak, you've missed the whole point.
