Winning actually isn't everything IMHO. It's freakin brilliant to win, but it's actually the journey that is what's important - what you learn from it, how you grow, how you respond to adversity.

I'm so damned proud of the Spurs for fighting until the very last minute of the series when most teams would've crumbled in game 7.

I love the Spurs because they stand for the journey. What do you think "pounding the rock" is about?

    Well said.

I'm damn proud of this team. Tim, Tony, Manu, Kawhi, Green... They all had their moments and battled to push this to 7. of a team

Good guys don't always finish first. But they are always the one that you want to be with in the end, win or lose.

I love my Spurs. Please greet them at the airport. They deserve that. I am1200 miles away or I would do it myself.

    Thank you, my Spurs.

I think the time is EXACTLY now. How we face adversity is what defines us.

Sup Ruff. Guess I shot myself in the foot by making that self-bet. I'm a man of my word so I got to honor it. As of tomorrow, I am officially out of here until next year's playoffs.

I think it's a brilliant question, Ruff, and I'm glad you posed it. I've been thinking about this very thing since about the middle of the Warriors series and haven't been able to figure out a way to talk about it constructively in this forum these days.

Good for you and thanks for this.

If you've missed the joy of the 16 year journey of the Tim Duncan era, with all of the winning and some of the heartbreak, you've missed the whole point.
Yup...sometimes I think fans get spoiled. There are a lot of NBA franchises that would kill to be where the Spurs are now.

Nah man, don't do it. Stupid bet. Stick around. Strong communities pull together through adversity, they don't fragment.

    Let's be a STRONG COMMUNITY.

    Thanks for the kind words.

I've always appreciated your takes, always. Bring them here when you're ready. I hope this thread becomes a long and challenging discussion that helps us all to say what we need to.

Probably. But I'm a man of my word. I'm definitely taking a break from the forum and sports for a while. I'll be back at some point.

    ...and a lot of fanbases.

Isn't this why we follow sports and care so much about our team? The rollercoaster? We've had a lot of ups and some decent downs as well, but you need both to fully experience life, and here we are.

lol getting all introspective and serene
like at the end of the movie when the protagonist is dying of cancer and says he is at peace
you wanna know when you'll really be peaceful? when you're dead
except for that couple minutes of rigor mortis

If you are playing, winning is everything. If youre hanging it up, its all about the journey, that's obviously plain, ESPECIALLY for the Spurs. I don't see how this is relevant seeing that they just lost a close game 7 in the NBA finals.

No doubt you're a man of your word. Thanks for sharing a great season, I've really appreciated having you around for perspective and insightful comments in the game threads.

I'll be pretty sparse around here until October too, just don't disappear.

The difference between winning and losing was this -- you have one more roll of the dice to make. Anything but snake eyes and you win.

    You got snake eyes.

Did they choke? No, but God hates you. And if there is no god, then the universe hates you. Or if there are parallel universes, you are unlucky enough to experience one of the few where the Spurs lost. You have to live in the one where the LeBron hype expands exponentially.

    Cruel fate.

Fair enough, but what if you're in the middle of the journey as we all are? I find reflecting on recent experiences to be valuable because it shapes what we take from them into the future, and how we remember the past.

Do I want to be bitter about this? No, because although it didn't turn out the way I wanted it to, that's life, the goods guys don't always win... infact, they rarely do. Either way, it was still a worthy and wonderful thing to experience. And I'm utterly grateful and in awe of the San Antonio Spurs for fighting to the end, and to some of their fans on Spurstalk for sharing the experience with me.

Anyway, fine if you don't want to discuss this right now but as you can see some people do.
