Doesn't need to be an all star - we were 22 seconds from le with ALL of our role guys ting themselves the last 2 games AND Miami getting some fluke shooting.

    1) Need to be healthy
    2) Need Kawhi to improve by at least the same amount as any drop that Duncan experiences (very reasonable)
    3) Need Manu's role to be redefined and have a slight bounce back next year (reasonable if #1 takes place)
    4) Get continued, if small, improvement from Splitter/Green/Joseph/Nando.

Other than that, modest improvements could make all the difference. I like the idea of Re as a replacement for Neal - same shooting, but much better passer & defender. Then use capspace and trade assets to get creative and add another shotblocker to the front line.

No, he really doesn't. His D reputation seems to stem because he picked Chris Paul's pocket a couple times last year, but little else to justify it.

Do you remember his play against the Spurs in '11. He was the 2nd best player of Memphis team that series. He plays D. But this is what I like. So many people just undervalue this guy that the Spurs can get him for a good price.

Guarding Manu with a broken hand - and Ginobili still had an okay series (Conley holding Parker down along with Memphis' front line is what determined that series).

All defensive metrics say he's mediocre at best. The eye test says he's lazy on that end and prone to ball watching.

Lot of possibilities out there. I like West, Milsap, Jefferson, Gasol, MWP, Ellis, Jack, Red , Hickson.

I agree with what you say, but when HE DOES PLAY D, it is at a very high level. Inconsistency is what has dogged him his whole career. But last year he was far more consistent than all his previous years especially on the Defensive end. I think coming to the Spurs and its Cultural would do wonders for Mayo. The Spurs IMO have the best development staff in the NBA, and Mayo IMO has the most potential of all the available SG on the Market right now.

Right now his value is reasonable, and the Spurs will get a greater return. There was alot knocks on Kawhi during the NBA draft b/c yes, he did have alot of fundamental work to do on footwork and shooting. But I love the pick b/c you could see the potential he had. Look at Kawhi now. Mayo IMO has that ability to take his game to another level given the right coaching and situation.

    Realistically, Jarret Jack.

Unrealistically, I would like to get Monta Ellis or Andre Iguodala to take over Ginobili's role. Iguodala probably most of all, but he's the most unrealistic option.

Cousins! but he wants max contract. I would love to see how the Spurs turn him around into a role model/franchise type player.

Something to be said for that - however, I would argue that Carlisle is no slouch himself in this area. Dallas' issues are in the front office not in the coaching/development area. And if they can't get him to play hard for 30+ minutes a night, I'm not sure it can be done.

I agree. The problem with the Mavs they were running too many Isolation plays for Dirk when he came back. And they didn't have a PG who could distribute the ball. Mayo alot of times was open and the Mavs just didn't give him the ball.

That wouldn't be a problem with the Spurs. Spurs always find the open shooter. Mavs were nearly dead last in corner 3's last year and Mayo was open alot (Most made 3's on Mavs team). The Spurs system suits Mayo in that in his own words, he is a shooter and facilitator. Its hard to be that when you are standing around and watching Dirk run isolation play over and over again and not have the ball in your hands at all.

Id be open to getting Ron Artest, to take the Blair role. But it's risky getting someone so old coming off knee issues.

Spurs are going to have a very tough time signing big-name free agents with egos. You're basically signing up to join a culture where you will never be the most important thing (and will never be anywhere near the franchise's best player). That's tough for most big names to swallow.

To say Howard wont come here because it is a small market is just wrong - he is considering Houston for gods sake!
Dwight Howard seems unpredictable and that may be why he could very likely choose San Antonio to repair his reputation while getting a championship. He may be tired of the media bashing him and prefer to come to San Antonio because the media only come here when we are in the Finals lol.

honestly us losing is prolly the best way to get dwight to come.he tweeted about the spurs and congratulated the heat. no on else mentioned the spurs lol

i think is losing increases our chances to get him...

OJ would be awesome him starting at 2 over green is much needed. green would be a good bench player but i dont see im accepting that role maybe we trade him

    if we dont get dwight
i nee oj for sure and smith or millsap jefferson or heck even jj hickson to start alongside timmy....

Just read that Landry is expected to opt out. I'd get him if we can sign him for cheap. Great hustle and fundamentals. Certainly a of a lot better than splitter

Houston is a vastly, vastly bigger media market (the only thing that matters--raw population doesn't). There is a reason Houston has a pro sports team in the major three sports and SA only has one.

Howard is not going to SA. Lakers or Rockets. That's it.

Houston's also the strip club capital of the free world. I'm guessing that's also a pretty big factor.

Danny Green being a D-League scrub is still fresh in my memory. Hard to imagine him having an ego too big to accept a bench role unless he really improves his game this summer.

No Josh Smith but its not likely he'd even come to San Antonio. Out of the list I don't see anyone realistically wanting to come here except maybe Al Jefferson who loves Tim, he has post game and he can rebound, his defense is suspect though. We do need length though so maybe Iggy... we need scoring, someone who can pull up and shoot and create a shot.
