He was not wrong he knows this team better than anyone. Even if he was wrong so what he is still our coach with a proven track record. Your hate for pop is very immature and shows how ty of a fan you are. The team isn't pissed at pop so why are you? Actually I appreciate the team a lot, and way more than you know, that's why it's important to point out that Pop robbed them.

I don't hate him, I hate his horrible stubborn ego driven arrogant coaching decisions and at ude many times. There are a lot of things I actually love about the guy. But his choke jobs aren't one of them. What's with your extreme Pop love anyway? Did he molest you at some point and you liked it? Are you a grandson of his? Lover?
I've had my take on the last minute decision by Pop. I'll say this though, we lost game 6 with the lineup that started the 4th quarter. It was horrendous and Pop should be blamed for that

Duncan was angry when Pop pulled him out, just like Hibbert, tbh..he'll never call Pop out because he's not a cancer like Kobe, tbh..
Frank Vogel was ripped apart for his bad decision, and rightfully so..Vogel is one of the youngest coaches in the NBA, he made a mistake by over-coaching..he apologized for his mistake and admitted he wouldn't make the same mistake again, tbh..
Pop actually received criticism for his mistake, which is rare, but he will never admit that he made a mistake, tbh, he will give an arrogant response whenever he's questioned about it, tbh..
It was a horrible decision that backfired, typical over-coaching, tbh..
I'm not sure why so many people have cited the Warriors series as an example of Pop's strategy succeeding..Duncan was struggling in the 4th quarter in every facet, while Splitter was playing well..against the Heat, all Duncan had to do was secure a rebound, which should be simple for a guy that had 17 rebounds in the game, tbh..
Worry all you want about Duncan being too slow to guard the 3, Miami still got open looks from 3, and the Spurs allowed soft-ass Bosh to get boards, which never happens if Duncan is in the game, tbh..
Over-coaching stubbornness, tbh..
Here is my take on all this Pop hate. I do agree that Pop cost Timmy this 5th ring. He made some dumbas* moves in Game 6 such as resting players in a close out game, not calling timeouts when the Heat go on a run, insisted on leaving Manu on the floor, and a whole lot of other mistakes that I'm too lazy to type.
At the same time, I still think that Pop is a brilliant coach. Yes he can seem arrogant and stubborn at times but for the most part he knows about basketball. What other coach is capable of making D-League players such as Danny Green and Gary Neal shine in the NBA? What other coach has trust in his young players allowing them play at their max potential? What other coach would adjust his playing style to suit the better needs of an older Tim Duncan and a younger Tony Parker? Remember that half-court, grinded-out type of team that the Spurs used to be? The so called boring Spurs according to the media? Pop realized that Duncan was no longer in his prime, the team lacked that legit center that would protect the rim and post up so he implemented a new motion offense where ball movement became the focal point of the offense. Old school basketball.
So those of you arguing about Pop are both right and wrong. I will always hate Pop and Manu for costing Duncan his 5th championship, he fuc*ed up, but I still think that Pop is a great coach. Maybe not a genius as some might say but he's still a good coach. Other coaches would of either been fired by now or resigned. Pop got creative and adjusted to his personnel.
Duncan was defending the PnR man vs GSW, he wasn't against Miami.
And Splitter is much better than Diaw on D.

Exactly. The Heat still got open looks from 3. Even if Duncan was defending a 3pt shooter, you've got to ask yourselves is it easier for Ray Allen to hit a 3 over TP or over a 7 footer? Plus Duncan would have been free to fully pressure the shot knowing they could give up the 2.
If Pop was such a genius - he would have had his players foul someone instead of trying to defend a 3. The Spurs had this win - if you foul the Heat they can only make 2 free throws AT BEST - then they will be forced to foul the spurs and the game is over.

pop didn't give the team turnovers.
pop can put a team on the floor, but if they don't execute, they dont execute. it's not his fault the heat were more athletic.
coaches make decisions all the time and they can't know how they will work out. sometimes they make mistakes, other times they don't.
it's impossible to hire a coach who will never make mistakes. you can only get someone who knows what they're doing, and no one knows what to do with the spurs like pop.
I've heard all that before, and it was wrong the first time. It's on Pop.

i watched all those games. pop didn't lose it; the team did. they were put in position to clinch multiple times and each time a member of the team ed up something easy.
that's on them, not pop.
imagine how many mistakes with this team another coach would have made.
if you cannot offer a superior alternative, then you're just impotently whining and second guessing his decisions.
