I don't know that motivation was an issue for Millsap last season, but if it was, that's alarming. He's a 28 year old, undersized PF, who, even though he is a known commodity, was still playing for what's almost certainly his final "big", long term contract.

That being said, I've been beating this drum for the better part of a year. Not that you base everything on the Heat, who the Spurs had beat and who, despite being the favorites, will be hard pressed to get back to the Finals next season, mostly due to fatigue, but . . . he is perfect for them and I believe he's lit them up since the big three formed. He's big, strong and good enough in the post to do damage there, as well as on the glass (against them; overall, despite his reputation, he's just okay as a rebounder) and a good enough shooter to space the floor out to 20 feet, as well as mobile enough to "hide" on one of their lesser threatening wings defensively.

The only other name on your list I could see them pursuing is Dunleavy, who's Spurs material on and off the court (he's basically an SF version of Barry). He'd particularly make sense if they're going to cut Bonner loose, as he's big enough and a solid enough rebounder to function as a stretch four, in select match-ups.

Al-Faroq Aminu is the only guy I can see helping the Spurs, but I doubt the Spurs will go after him.

The guys I really want are Andre Igoudala and AK-47

Calderon's defense is really the only drawback. Otherwise, I love the guy's game.

Millsap would likely have to be a 3 or 4 year commitment which i don't think is the right move for this team, given his limitations. he's already 28 and has likely peaked. not worth whatever it will likely take to sign him. i'd much prefer the spurs went after tyreke or aminu. young guys with athletic potential. i like tyreke because he has the skills to be a manu replacement, in that he has size, can handle the ball and distribute it well

    Isn't tyreke restricted though?

Why does everyone keep insisting on Paul Millsap? The guy is a fuc*ing midget. He will win us some regular season games but come playoff time, if we run into a big team like the Clippers, Lakers, Grizzlies, or Nuggets, then the Spurs will pay the consequences of having an undersized big man. Then Millsap will be on the trading block or in Pop's dog house the following year because Pop hates undersized big men. Just ask Malik Rose and Dejuan Blair.

Millsap predicted to go to SA?

    Kevin C. Cox/Getty Images
Paul Millsap is an unheralded, undersized power forward that brings a lot to the table and doesn’t take much off.
While he’s not going to score 50 points or grab 30 rebounds, the seven-year veteran brings his lunch pail and blue collar work ethic every time he steps onto the court.
He’s an extremely efficient player that is capable of defending effectively despite his height limitations, has range out to the three-point line to draw defenders and does all the little things to help the Utah Jazz win.
For those reasons, we think he’d be a perfect acquisition for the aging San Antonio Spurs, who could use another big man to compliment the frontcourt rotation.
If Millsap is able to log 30 minutes a night, San Antonio will be fresher for the playoffs and have a better chance of succeeding after the regular-season grind.

    Prediction: San Antonio Spurs

San Antonio will have to think hard of splitter if they want millsap.

Not including the finals, tiago has been money for the spurs. Millsap will not be signed.

    for backup guards
Korver/Red /Dunleavy/Mayo (most intriguing but also way to inconsistent) in that order

    Bigs
West(1% chance)/Hickson/Brand/Jefferson//Dalmerbert/Blatche/Speights (player option) also in that order

    Trade Target of Garnett
offering Splitter+first round pick or Splitter+second round pick for Lee/Terry (bad contract) Garnett and maybe second round pick/cash considerations

Cause you can't get enough undersized power forwards when you need to improve defensively.

Best fit, for a lot of obvious reasons, both on/off court, plus he'll be more affordable than the bigger name bigs. If he struggles in certain match-ups, they can utilize Splitter and to a lesser extent, Diaw more.

Pop's problem with Blair was never the fact that he was undersized. In fact, he gave him plenty of opportunity in spite of that and because of the dearth of quality bigs they've had throughout his tenure. His problems with Blair were being out of shape, constantly trying to do too much and shoddy defense.
