Far out
From Ole: Oberto has admitted that's his time to retire has finally arrived. "I'm thinking about other things," said Oberto after saying no to Atenas. He would become a part of Gregg Popovich's staff in the Spurs.
I translated the most important parts. The full article is here: http://www.ole.com.ar/basquet/vas-Pop_0_942505860.htmlHe didn't give many details, but it's practically a fact that he'll be the new assistant in Popovich's staff...replacing Mike Budenholzer who recently became the new Atlanta coach. "I've been in touch with Buford...he told me the doors were open for me here. I was in San Antonio last month and we spoke. It's my home," he said. Tags
Far out
That's pretty cool news. I liked him as a spurs player.
If this pans out i don´t be surprised if we use our late second to draft Argentina´s Backup PG Facundo Campazzo (the guy that hit carmelo in the semifinals with the so called "cheap shot")
If love to have Fab in the organization. If Tiago had his heart and will...
Yeah always like Oberto he played hard and with heart hope he can come in and coach up Baynes real quick.
That's what I thought too...It'd be nice to see him helping Baynes.
I heard Ime was gonna take Budenholzers spot.
He says in the article that's "an opportunity to start from the bottom", so I suspect he would just join the staff, kinda like Sean Marks did this season.
YES finally the Oberto has come back #TheReturn
I guess he would start as a bigmen coach and, given how smart and experienced he was as a player, I guess he would be fine in that role.
I would not want that at all he missed a couple o seasons here and there with a heart defect.
I'd love to see tiago have his will and drive though.
well played
Love Fab. Would be awesome to see him as part of the staff.
i think so too. He could do a lot of good with Splitter and Baynes I would think.
fire popa and bring in fabreezey. oberto will save us. #TheReturn
More like bring back PJ to run the offense....
Pretty much what I thought.
I was always amazed during his run with us how he was able to maximize his talent by understanding the game.
That's great news! He was great on the Spurs
Well our first move in off season and I like it...![]()
Rightly so, if you want to work in the NBA off the court, the best place to start is in the Spurs organization. I believe having time spent with the spurs office will greatly increase any chance of getting a job anywhere in the NBA.
Considering that he has a high basketball IQ, Oberto would be a valuable asset to the Spurs staff.
there's no news on this... he officially retired from basketball about 3 weeks ago, and there were no other news since then.
