Jerry Sloan and Deron Williams got into a heated exchange during halftime of a Utah Jazz game in February of 2011, and CEO Greg Miller believes Sloan might have remained the coach had Williams stopped popping off.
Sloan reprimanded Williams for freelancing, leading to a contentious moment that Williams continued.
"If (Williams) would've left it right there, Jerry might have never left," Miller said.
Al Jefferson attempted to cool off Williams.
"Jerry said at that point, 'I don’t have anything else,'" Miller said.
Sloan resigned the next day and Williams was traded later that month to the Brooklyn Nets.

    Top PGs in the league:

Parker - started as a guy who got owned by Lance Blanks in workouts then became a top tier PG
Paul - got traded to LA where he took over the front office
Williams - killed 3 coaches, got traded to Brooklyn
Rose - p*ssy who sat out a season while his teammates played hurt
Westbrook - not a p*ssy but dresses up and plays with one

this decade is an era for PGs, but they all lack something to be elite

yeah Sloan is too tough for today's crybabies...

if dennis rodman or bill laimbeer played against the Heat today, Wade would be injured within minutes, James would be deferring and Bosh would probably not even play because he can't emotionally take it any more

Add stat padding, triple double to the list.

Sloan was remiss to quit though. Then spends the following 2 years inteviewing only to return in some manufactured position.

Williams is the consumate asshole, but, Sloan is complicit.

Bill Laimbeer was a fake tough guy. Anyone can sit there and deliver cheap shots to guys who attack the rim. But then when you turn around and shoot jumpers that makes you a pussy. He was a 'pick and pop' player avoiding the paint when he knew guys would retaliate. It's the same thing as an American League pitcher nailing guys with fastballs when he knows there won't be any retaliation. It's a coward move.

If Laimbeer was so 'tough' he should've been a boxer instead.

You can't be serious. You can call Laimbeer's offensive game soft, but he wasn't a fake tough guy. He was willing to throw down. In his prime, he led the league in rebounding one season, and was regularly around 11-12 RPG, including 3-4 offensive rebounds a game. Fake tough guys don't do that. He didn't avoid the paint on offense as much as you imply. Was Charles Oakley a fake tough guy too since he was a jumpshooter on offense? Call Laimbeer a flopper. Call him a guy who delivered cheap shots. But he wasn't soft. He wasn't like Carmelo or KG who would posture like tough guys and scream and yell while backpedaling and hiding behind teammates. He would actually throw down if there was a confrontation. A guy who is willing to swing and fight is not a fake tough guy.

Calling Laimbeer a fake tough guy is such a misguided and misinformed opinion.

'Fighting' in the NBA is extremely comical. Admittedly, there actually was fighting back then but it was still going to get broken up regardless so the fear factor wasn't as strong. Granted, I think toughness in the NBA is really overrated for everyone not just Laimbeer. Being tough, imho, is getting knocked to the ground hard then getting right back up (Jordan, Iverson, etc). Shaq, to some degree was tough because he knew that every single night he was going to get hacked but he still sat in the post demanding the ball all game.

Basically, I get fed up with the whole "big bad Laimbeer" stereotype. There's nothing badass about delivering cheap shots to opponents and then being a 7 foot jump shooter on the other end.
