I challenge anyone to find a team that has been better.

    2007

    Tiago Splitter 28th Pick

Above average NBA center. Pisses a lot of us off but if the Spurs were to get a player this year at 28 that is as serviceable as Tiago then we'd be lucky as .

    2008

    George Hill 26th Pick

Another above average NBA guard. Eventually parlayed into Kawhi but even without that bit they still picked another great NBA player late in the 1st

(Picked Dragic in the 2nd this year but that was just a pick for Phoenix the entire way)

    2009

Didn't pick in the first round this year and yet....

    Dejuan Blair 37th Pick
    Nando DeColo 53rd Pick

Two NBA quality players. Dejuan is a bad fit here but he'll likely be a rotation player somewhere. Nando is probably a below average NBA point guard but with the 53rd pick getting someone who is capable of making a roster at all is a good success.

    2010

    James Anderson 20th Pick

The weakest pick of recent memory. Whether James wasn't good enough or whether it was bad luck and injuries this simply didn't pan out.

    2011

    Kawhi!!!!
    Corey Joseph 29th Pick

Pretty great move to snag Kawhi. Technically a trade and not a pick but the Spurs wanted him the entire way. Best draft move of the bunch. Corey Joseph is still undetermined but towards the end of last season I really really loved what I saw out of him. I would put money on him being an above average NBA back up PG this year.

No first rounder in 2012 due to the RJ trade. Getting rid of RJ was well worth it as we have capspace this year we otherwise would not have had.

So yeah, any Spursfan that complains with what the Spurs have done with very limited resources over this period of time is an absolute idiot.

People have complained about what the spurs have done in the draft past few years? Havn't heard of these complaints tbh
It's been some great drafts with our always-low picks

There seem to be a few 2nd rounders you've left out along the way. Specifically several that didn't really pan out, and others that are definitely still up in the air.

kl is great but he is just helping tp and duncan

Thats because virtually no 2nd rounders ever pan out. Anything you get out of the 2nd round is gravy. Anyone holding a pick of Ryan Richards or Marcus Williams against the Spurs is foolish as .

SG/SF or Center. I'll be disappointed if we go any other direction.

James Anderson was actually looking to be another great pickup. Too bad for that injury.

Not from any decent posters. There are always a few NA/GNSF who are simply ing re ed but hopefully with some training they can at least be mediocre posters.

He wasn't an original draft pick, but picking up Danny Green was another steal.

    46th pick in the draft.

Yeah, guys with that injury just don't do well after. We'll never now for sure.

I remember reading that the spurs were gonna draft him if he fell to them that year.

    Heres the thread on ST

I could be overrating him, but I liked what I saw out of Malik Hairston. Then again, the Spurs were really weak at the 2 and 3 positions at that time.

Anyone who doesn't think the Spurs have drafted unbelievably well in the last handful of years doesn't know anything about the NBA draft, tbh.

You call nando, quality, and then proceed to say he's below avg...which is it?

Anderson was pretty damn good until breaking his foot, so RC has pretty much nailed it every year. What the 90s would have been like with this front office.

He's quality for a second-round pick, still below average for an NBA point guard.

So he's below avg...we'll leave it at that.

Since we're talking about the draft picks, he's a good one.

Oh noes!!! 2nd rounders that don't work out!!1!

Outside the lottery its problematic and you want pick 60 to be held to account?

I think you all seem to be missing my point. If this is really our "draft history" as the thread is led, I'd think we wouldn't want to basically delete 50% of the draft.

I'm not some dumb and I realize what the second round is, and what it isn't. But my point is if you want to tell the history of the draft since 2007, don't be selective in what you talk about. Tell the history.

Agreed. Half of 2013 roster came via the draft (counting Kawhi makes 8 players) and half via free agency/waiver wire.

If you look at the trade for Jack, losing RJ was a real blessing but the 30th pick the Spurs gave up became Festus Ezeli. Would you think the Spurs could have done better than Ezeli had they kept their pick last year and moved something else in the trade with RJ? Aron Baynes has some similar abilities even though his physique is very different from Festus'. Festus started half the games for the Warriors, blocked a shot/game and averaged 2.4 PPG & 4 RPG.

All in all, the Spurs were able to build a great mix of players, lived within their means, got within 5 seconds of winning a championship and seem to have a positive mix to work with going forward.

    OK, Here's the history :

I'd put it up against any other contending team in the same period tbh.

I would too. This team has been amazing in the draft. And there are a lot of players from those second rounds that may still pan out yet. Which only grows the resume of successes that much more.
