Glad to have Excite-Us Diaw back in the fold.
Boris Diaw's top assets are is bbIQ and his passing ability, which would obviously shine on a team that thrives on offense with ball movement. the bobcats were the worst offensive team in the league and they were looking to have Diaw be one of their primary scorers, which hasn't been his shtick throughout his career. he thrived on phoenix when they were a great offensive team with shooters, and he has done really well in San Antonio, a great offensive team with shooters. it was obvious he was a terrible fit with the bobcats, asking a facilitator to be a primary scoring threat
Glad to have Excite-Us Diaw back in the fold.
I am glad he is in for another year. He is a key piece.
I think you extremely underestimate Diaw. Some teams would love to have a big man that could pass and shoot. Diaw is that kind of player. An excellent passer and he could definitely hit the open shots, even stretch it at the 3 point line. He just prefers to pass the ball even though he is wide open, which in someways hurts our team's offense. But I really think that had he gone to test the market, he could have gotten a higher offer from other teams. It is just that he is a very unselfish player and that's why I think he is a great fit, if not perfect for the Spurs.
Diaw is extremely valuable. Love that he opted in.
I'm not exactly happy or mad. I would have been fine with him opting our for cap space reasons. But he is a good value and played very well so I am fine with him staying too.
I bet that Lakers would love to have Diaw. Diaw there would make the Lakers be like the mid-2000s Suns. A Diaw-Nash-D Antoni reunion with Howard, if ever he resigns with the Lakers, playing the role of Amare.
Good news. Hope Pop doesn't inexplicably bench him when it counts tbh.
Spurs have a lot of tradeable expiring contracts (Bonner/Boris and even smaller ones like Mills). When you factor that in with cap space, Spurs can take on some pretty massive salary in a trade potentially.
The cap space will depend heavily on Manu's contract, waiving/amnesty of Bonner (if the don't trade him) and guys like Neal and Blair not being back.
Let's say Manu takes a 6M contract and the Spurs amnesty Bonner and Neal/Blair are gone. Spurs should have about 6M in cap space. You factor in Boris expiring/Mills expiring, and in a trade, the Spurs could take back about 12M in a trade while still signing Tiago to whatever they want essentially (ignoring the LT for the moment).
His best offensive stats was when Amar'e Stoudemire was injured, He was forced to (because nobody else) and had the full trust of D'Antoni
otherwise he just makes his teammates better ,because he never have a reliable shoot
with the desire to find a better pass for an open shot for a better shooter (more reliable)and some coach hates that
Silas one of them
So he just do the dirty work, defense, rebounds...
There only Spurs to Boris nothing else (it's Spurs or Euroligue)
Had some success against LeBron, defends Dirk, Pau, and other mobile bigs well, great passer and ball handler.....glad he is back
glad diaw is back....key part of the spurs
Great news! Also, it's good we didn't sign him to a lengthy contract.
The real question to me is, how do the Spurs feel? I wonder if his contract was a team option, whether or not they would have picked it up?

More from Diaw's agent:says when he met with Diaw yesterday,Boris was leaning toward opting in but wanted to get his agent's thoughts #Spurs

Just got off the phone with Diaw's agent. Says while Diaw opting in wasn't a formality, San Antonio is a place Diaw wanted to be. #Spurs
nice to read that
Ya, his agent said, you may get a 3 year, 9M dollar deal if you opt out, but if you opt in you get 4.7 guaranteed and would only need a 2 year/4.3M deal to break even which should be very likely.
True but we wouldn't have a bench to play anymore except for Manu, Cojo, Baynes and TMac. And only one of those guys is worth keeping.
Good. Now release Bonner and save 3 millions.
Good news. He exhibited a surprising amount of clutchness in the playoffs. As a third big, he's pretty damn valuable.
This 100x
Diaw was decent in the playoffs but it's not like he is doing SA a favor. I doubt he would get more than 4.7m in the open market. Anyway, I am happy he will be back.
Huuge piece off the bench
