Still doesn't mean it's a buzz, though. I guess it depends on how define a buzz.
I personally think getting high once a day is stupid, because your body develops a tolerance to weed and then you can't really enjoy it the same as someone who gets high maybe once a week.
Still doesn't mean it's a buzz, though. I guess it depends on how define a buzz.
getting high five times a day is not absurd. the family in the OP does it and it appears that they live a productive life.
Plenty of people live productive lives and do absurd things.
so whats the problem?
This.
I think this is the case with most recreational drugs. It's better to do them on occasion otherwise you basically de-value them. I smoke pot occasionally. When I do it, I get the most out of it.
I think it's absurd.
Just because you don't feel it doesn't mean you're not buzzed.
As for the topic at hand, I generally don't think that smoking weed in the vicinity of your kids is necessarily a bad thing. So long as it's done in moderation and, especially when the kids are old enough to know what's going on, so long as it's established as an adult activity. My mom is still a pothead and never hid it from me when I was growing up. Not only did it not turn me into a massive druggie, but I've largely been uninterested in anything stronger than booze because hard drugs (pot wasn't the only thing I ever saw my mom and/or her friends doing) were completely without any sense of taboo, mystery, or rebellion for me. I can't say the same about those friends who grew up with their parents keeping it a secret.
There are limits, though. I am somewhat bothered by parents who push or encourage drug use on their kids, though. Or who get high with their teenagers. Or who do too much too often while taking care of particularly young kids. For instance, I work in the French Quarter, where there are 24 hour bars and no open container laws, and I get really bothered when I see parents pushing strollers at 11:00am with a giant hand grenade or hurricane or daiquiri or some other big-gulp sized, Everclear laden concoction.
They you up, your mum and dad.
They may not mean to, but they do.
They fill you with the faults they had
And add some extra, just for you.
But they were ed up in their turn
By fools in old-style hats and coats,
Who half the time were soppy-stern
And half at one another’s throats.
Man hands on misery to man.
It deepens like a coastal shelf.
Get out as early as you can,
And don’t have any kids yourself.

Being able to feel that you're buzzed is a pre-requisite. If you can't feel , then it obviously isn't hitting you in any significant way. That's what I mean. Using the scientific method I'm pretty sure there are changes after I accidently swallow listerine. But a buzz is noticeable.
There isn't a specific definition for it so it is what you make of it.
Smoking weed in the vicinity of your kids is a bad thing IMO because you're doing something that is illegal. You're personal anecdote is just that. I'd be more interested in statistics showing how habits of parents correlate with habits of their kids. I don't believe your experience is common. I'd also be interested in how many kids of parents who keep it "secret" actually find out their parents smoke before they're old enough to understand. You can try and keep it secret all you want, but the curious eyes and ears of children don't care.
My main beef with smoking pot is that it is illegal. There's no comfort in spending a night in jail due smoking it, so why give the impression that it is perfectly okay to smoke it? It's not a risk I'd want my kids to think is okay to take.
Yes, marijuana is illegal. Should it be? Of course not. It's less harmful than almost every legal drug. The more it is accepted and the less the lie is perpetrated, the better. It's pretty weak to accept that something is bad just because it is illegal when it is obviously completely hypocritical that the law exists.
it's a crime to smoke weed (or cigarette) in front of kids, probably even worse than child porn. Adults should know that when they hold a stick of tobacco between the fingers, they're setting a horrible model to the kids. my dad is an avid smoker just like my goddess but fortunately enough my mom taught me about the harm of smoking when I was a little kid. Smoking will always be the last thing I'd ever wanna do in my life, with sex being a close 2nd place
Marijuana moms, Prozac moms, wine moms, unfiltered cigarette moms----it's always something.
Truth. I'd much rather see parents smoke weed heavily than drink heavily.
Reading many replies in this thread I can see many of your kids must attended Bible college.
Everyone is so worried about the parents when it's the Rap videos South Park and two and a half men that will be what kids will learn from. I wonder what many of the parents in this topic will be doing when their kids will be in college doing anal beer shots and soaking their tampons in vodka.
I agree that it's wrong that it's illegal, but it's still illegal. You can still accept weed as being okay morally and spread that message around and not 'perpetrate the lie', and not smoke it because of its illegality.
I think weed is just great, but how the do you justify smoking a bong in front of your kid? Not to mention the money probably being wasted for them to get high that could be better used on things that the child probably needs.
The kid looks healthy and has clothes on what other needs did you spot?
But getting drunk and taking your kids out to BBQ's and birthdays, where everyone gets faced is right because alcohol is legal?
People make a deal about pot because it's illegal in most places. Let's be honest, if it was legal, would you give a about it?
I think that both are really irresponsible.....alcohol is actually worse. I agree that stoned parents > drunk parents.
But, a good parent would be able to wait until the kid is asleep or being watched by someone else where they have a few hours to themselves.
Well, I see where you're coming from. I think pot is okay and it shouldn't be pushed onto kids and if it's illegal you can't just condone it, but I wouldn't make a huge deal about it, of course I wouldn't smoke joints with my little kid in the same room.
But what I'm trying to say is it's okay to raise kids if you know how to control your highs and not get sloppy and what not. Pot being illegal is very stupid though.
Pretty much. You shouldn't be filling your kids in on anything alcohol or pot related until they're old enough. If they ask about it you just say it's something adults do.
Because for me, letting a small child under the age of ten know about weed, booze, and other things kinda ruins their childhood a bit and forces them to accept and think about things that they shouldn't really be thinking about.
But yeah I agree it's all good in moderation and there are plenty of responsible, loving parents that smoke on the sticky as well. I guess i just feel like you shouldn't advertise it or have it be something your life completely revolves around.
I think it's ridiculous to teach little kids about weed with story books. Can't imagine one for "Daddy's Bottle of Jack Daniels" or "Mommy Drinks Cause You Cry".
"Get Daddy a Beer from the Fridge"
