Nothing against Brad Stevens, but the last time the Celtics hired a highly-regarded college coach during a rebuild, it was a complete disaster, tbh....

Pitino was supposed to get Jim and instead they got Billps. Pitino didn't know what position to play him and ed everything up.

All of Rivals and Scout is flabbergasted. Nobody saw this coming. Everyone had him waiting out the Tabacco Road jobs, or Indiana.

Now he can wait out those jobs while collecting a much higher salary.

Boston's not expected to win anything for a while. They're in rebuild mode. There will be a lot less pressure on Stevens than there was on Rick.

Wow. But good hire for Celtics. Interested to see how he goes with veteran guys. Gordon Heywood trade with Utah now?

All true. Just weird to see. Maybe get "NBA" experience to sell them 5-stars like Calipari and Pitino.

Yeah, because let's be honest, his ass is getting fired with that roster.

There's no such thing as "no pressure" in the NBA. He's basically being setup to become a sacrificial lamb.

So, since I don't follow anything but the NBA... What's this guy about? I have read good things, but haven't seen any teams he has coached.

I wonder if the C's end up with Chauncey again or if they can move up to Keith Van Horn in the 2014 draft

Were any black coaches interviewed? Got to make sure the league isn't racist in the hiring process.

His NCAA record in all six seasons is better than any other start in NCAA history. Took Butler to two finals. Also got a rep from bringing advanced stats to the NCAA.

Advanced analytics, very paced, almost a Thibs clone as far as defense and mentality. Can really coach up and scheme maximizes talent (again, a lot like Thibs). He looks into skillsets in matchups, rotations, etc., and does the whole "chess not checkers" approach to situational coaching.

Got freakin' Butler to back-to-back le games with just two four-star players on his roster, getting Gordon Hayward drafted in 2010.

It'll be interesting. I like the risk.

From what you guys are saying, sounds like a big swing from Doc. Interested to see how it turns out. I think I would rather give someone new a chance than hire a retread.

He has a brilliant basketball mind. Seems laid back on sidelines, but I hear is intense in practices.

We'll see. They are going to be young pretty soon.
