If that is the only issue, then I can't understand how one could say they won't be a force next year, especially in a "payback" series against SA.

Conley, Gasol, Bayless, Pontdexter, and maybe even Arthur should improve.
Arthur was traded to Denver. They have a solid backup Center now though (Koufos)

Based on that fact the Spurs still have the MLE and attractive assets and contracts for S&Ts I'm really not sure why Spurs fan thinks they're done for the offseason.

Diaw, Splitter, Manu, and Tony were all either out/hobbled by injuries to start the playoffs this past season, and a lot of it carried over into the GS series.

Since it makes no difference concerning the MLE, good contract.

Spurs had all the leverage here.
After thius reg season and this Finals Manus value on the open market couldnt have been lower
And to top it off the entire league, similar to us, just doesnt see Manu as anything other than a Spur.
I realy think they shoulda lowballed him or made him wait while they looked elsewhere
can he do? Leave? So the what
Would a Manu-less Spurs team really be any worse?

Spurs are not a 'bottom line' team. I truly do not think that they fake the notion of solidarity and chemistry they claim. Given that, notions of 'leverage' are besides the point.

This sucks. If Manu needs money so badly that he'd ruin his on-court legacy over the next 2 years to get it, then make him a coach instead.

The ONLY chance we have of improving is if Kawhi suddenly proves to be a great offensive wing player. It's absurd that they didn't do anything to get better.

    Sorry, Timmy.
Why are you apologizing to Duncan, when he himself has already said he's happy that Manu's back?

Of course he wants Manu back. Everybody wants Manu back. We don't want to need him replaced, but that doesn't change the fact that we do need him replaced. We really did give him too much money for him to run up court and throw a re ed, inaccurate jump pass every time. We've never had much flexibility on account of being pretty good always, but we've never maximized the space that we've had. Just wasting time/money on people like Bonner, Jefferson, Turkoglu, RMJ ( ing Pop), Finley, Van Exel etc.

Finley played great in the 06 playoffs and hit alot of threes in the 07 playoffs! Later he got too old and should have been gone but he did work out for a year or so.

You're probably right on Finley, but there was a time when he was hanging around when he should have been gone, getting abused on D and whatnot. But yeah, I think I'll retract Finley from that statement, even though Pop liked him for a little too long.

I like Manu, but 2y/14mio$ is too much; 2/10 or 2/9 would be acceptable

I was hoping for more of 2 year/$10M but I'm not surprised by this. I've no problem with them paying Manu that much money, I was just hoping we could use some of it to get more help.

Been re-watching the Playoffs from the start, and just finished the Golden State series. Manu played a heap of good games and was a pretty major part in the Spurs even getting to the finals, let alone past Golden State. He made a tonne of great plays in that series, not to mention a couple of dagger threes.

    Need a reminder?

YES, he took some stupid threes sometimes but even still, I wouldn't want him anywhere else. You don't think 29 other teams would want what Manu brings instead of us?

If you don't think he's worth $7mil to the FO (considering all the PR he does for the team not to mention leadership and on court stuff) you're nuts.

Personally, I'm happy he's back. I'm no cap expert (or even amateur) but even I can see it sounds reasonable.

You're assuming they would amnesty Bonner... that's far from a sure thing...
I'm sure they considered all of this, but seeing that the market for a shooter like Korver was $6 million per year, they decided to stick with what they had (1 year of Bonner @ $4 million is a lot less risky than the four years everyone else is getting). Even had Manu taken half as much + amnestying Bonner, it would have just meant $7.5 million of cap space plus a smaller exception once they hit the cap. I'm in the minority here, but think it's hard to replace Bonner for a couple of million bucks. As it stands, it seems like there are more players out there than cap space available, so several of these guys are going to have to live with the MLE like Monta and AK47.

The team is being prudent as it has to save some room to extend Kawhi next offseason without creeping into the tax.

outta here you head, your team won't exist after BRON LEAVES!!!!!!!!!!! You will be back to an average team for years. Your fans won't exist then again.

Your team might get oneeeeee more, might, but after that Wade will get old per par and Bosh gone probably and Bron will bolt! Then you will not enjoy the longevity the Spurs have had an they did not buy their team.

I know that Pop and the organization love Ginobili and rightfully so. The risk the Spurs are taking here is betting that Ginobili's production and availability will match the level of this contract over the next two years. Unlike Duncan, his body has taken an awful beating with his year-round basketball committments to both the Spurs and his home country. It's no wonder he's starting to break down.
