Firstly, they can't re-acquire him after they've amnestied him until his original contract expires. So no re-signing him for at least year.

Secondly, it's not Kobe's choice to leave the Lakers if amnestied. If he gets claimed, he has to report to that new team.
I seriously need to read more about these kind of stuff.

Damn, I was under the impression that the lakers didn't have to pay if someone picked him up for his contract deal of they'd pay his full deal off the books.. Well, I mean even then that's kinda a good deal for LA.
The Lakers have to pay whatever the difference is between the bid and his salary. So in that scenario, the Lakers have to pay about $28.5 Million to see Bryant in another uniform.

Is that off the books though? They're in cap right now.. and at 34/35 coming off ACL I'm not sure he's gonna do anything significant. I'd dump the salary if I could.. Lottery time.

He might have to report, but he doesn't have to play. That achilles could take longer than Derrick Rose's knee to get ready for game action.

It wouldn't count against the cap or against the tax, but they would still have to cut him checks.

So with Millsap out, who do you guys have as a back-up plan for small ball PF if this Ak47 doesn't work out?

They'd have to really tank in order to get a good draft pick, problem is they don't have one in 2015 but should have some cap space once all the ty contracts come off the books. I wonder who'd be the first to pick up Bryant if they amnestied him/cut him.

You think Kobe's missing the season with an injury when he knows he doesn't have many left? I don't know. Also, I'm just saying he's property of that new team, and that team would get the money from his jersey sales and such. It's not like the Lakers could just amnesty him then re-up him.

Their 2015 pick is probably protected, so if they tank, it's probably theirs.

They owe that pick to the Suns and there 2nd round goes to Orlando. they don't have a pick till 2016

I understand you feel the Spurs are standing pat, therefore probably dipped into the MLE for Belinelli right? Who do you think the Spurs sign though next? They are surely going to get a backup SF still, don't you think?

Moot discussion anyway. No way that LA uses the amnesty on Kobe. Their fan base would openly revolt.

That would be my best guess.

In that case, they would at least need to get a serviceable SF. One that could play for a few minutes.

The way it stands, Leonard would have to play 37+ minutes in the RS, and IMO, that's way too risky. 32-35 would be ideal.

If they Lakers have a bad enough record, then they get to keep the pick and have to give up a future one. That's how protection works, and it's pretty standard in all trades. Also, they actually do have their pick next season. They just don't have one in 2015. They've already given the Suns their first pick.

I'm sticking with Wojo on this, but Kennedy, Adande, and now Broussard keep pimping this:

Again...DO NOT listen to Kennedy. I can't even count the number of times he was full of with things he said his "sources" told him. I finally quit following him during the draft when two of his trade rumors wound up being completely made up. Hoopsworld articles have been the ass end of jokes for years.

Woj and Sam Amick are two of the most solid...followed by Aldridge, Spears and Stein.

    Groce.

On that list, Garcia defended Durant Pretty well in the play-offs. He can shoot the three ball too..
