So if Kobe is worse and the team overall is worse (Nash, MWP & Gasol were all there last season too), how could they do better than last year? Last year was barely a playoff team and if they are any worse, they are a lottery pick team.
cause they had no chemistry and Howard couldn't make a ft? Plus they had Pau at the wing and he's a post up PF

It would be something that they finish with a modestly bad record 30-52 and are in the lottery and by some miracle they get it.. Would kind of be a parting shot from Stern who said the league was fixed under his watch, lol. Conspiracy Theory

They aren't better with injured Kobe, no Dwight, no Jamison, no Clark. They will be one of the worst defensive teams in the league.

By getting out of the luxury tax, they not only save significant money this year but would reset the repeater tax status (saving even more $ in future) and also get access to the full mid level in a year or two when Lebron and co are free agents to replenish the bench.

but Kobe is too full of himself to take one for the betterment of the franchise.

Well, LA can get under the salary cap (thus avoiding the LT) by using the amnesty on MWP and moving Pau for little or no money in return. They don't have to amnesty Kobe to do that. It's just that they could have significant cap space by using the amnesty on Kobe and then moving Pau.

Now I just don't want Rockets to get Ryan Anderson as well.

They're trying to trade Asik for him. Anderson would be perfect for them now.
I would love for them to get Anderson. Dude is a huge playoff choker. His production literally falls off a cliff in the postseason.

There are at least seven teams in the west Lakers haven't got a snowballs chance in of having a better record than. With how old and thin they are I'd bet the farm they're lottery bound. I think they'll pay lip service to making a game of it bit be in full tank mode by Jan.

Oh no. Might be a blessing in disguise. I won't be surprise for them to get the 1st Overall Pick if they will tank this coming season. I thought they gave picks whey they acquired Nash and Howard.

They could play team basketball and some sort of defense. I'm not saying they will, but I'm saying they could. Talent that doesn't play well together is <<<< a good team with less talent.

I just saw that the Pacers signed Copeland.....that was a very nice move for them, strengthen their bench and weaken a conference foe (Knicks) at the same time. Just think, if they can afford to sign Neal as well, their bench has definitely been upgraded this offseason.

I do think there's something to this. Dwight's departure not only removes an on court/off court distraction, it's going to fire up Kobe and the others. Do I think that's going to be enough to get them the 8th seed? No, but there's still a lot of offseason left.

I meant they'd play team basketball before Kobe comes back from injury. Kobe's fired up to make sure he cements his personal stats before his career ends. He all over last year's team putting up gaudy numbers. I don't see that changing.

No matter how fired up Kobe is, I don't think it's going to make much of a difference for a while.

I misunderstood you then. I think a stat whoring Kobe lakers team is still going to be good enough to win 35 games or so, but the lakers without Kobe are just going to be awful no matter how good the chemistry.

    Eww, that's a crappy deal.
Jose Calderon was 31st in WS in 2012-2013
Josh Smith had the 31st highest salary in 2012-2013 at $13,200,000.

Dallas got a good deal for Calderon.

Well Kobe can win regular season games with his numbers, that's true. What I meant was I don't think he's going to suddenly be fired up to win games at the expense of his stats since he didn't do it last year when he actually had a pretty talented roster joining him.

Just remember, a little past this time last year, Lakers were consensus world beaters. They had the "best team in the NBA, period."

Though he's not on the blocks and I never hear anyone here say they like his game, I would be interested if the Spurs traded a couple of expiring contracts for Channing Frye. His enlarged heart was diagnosed well over a year ago. Any thoughts or new about Frye?

If the Knicks are still in play then Martin won't end up with Spurs. Skill-wise he's an upgrade over Blair...no idea if he fits with the system or no-nonsense culture.
