This.
Because of the following reasons:
I don't see us amnestying Bonner. Pop still likes him and Holt is a good owner, but not the type of guy willing to pay someone to not play (at least as long as you can call Bonner "somewhat servicable").
My only worry is a team like Dallas who lucked out on major free agents but still has cap space to splurge may go after him and offer more than we can. Too much to refuse. If we managed to get AK47 it would be a pretty great offseason overall and our depth for next year would look great;
PG: Parker/CoJo/Mills/Nando
SG: Green/Manu/Belinelli
SF: Leonard/Kirilenko
PF: Duncan/Diaw/Pendergraph
C: Splitter/Baynes
Good lookin team!

If we get AK, what happens to the SG/SF rotation?
With Green presumably starting at SG and Leonard starting at SF, Beli/Gino at SG/SF off the bench would be the best choice. Adding AK (who would probably play SF, due to us already having Duncan/Diaw at PF) could possibly force Beli into a role as back-up PG. It didn't work so well when we did it with Mason and Neal. Just sayin
No need to worry about Dallas. Calderon and Harris used up a good chunk of their capspace and they need to use whatever's left finding a center, seeing as how they currently have zero of them on their roster.
Coyote I actually like your lineup the only thing I see changing is that Nando is not going to be a happy camper and is going to want a trade. I think that a trade works out for both of us and if he goes who do think we get?
Negative. Manu will start and Green will be moved to the backup SF. Green will also see time when situational defense is required,.
That was mosdef17's lineup I was quoting, but I agree with you about trading Nando, well, at least one of Nando or Joseph. In either case, if we're going to get AK, I think one of them gets moved in a salary dump. The Spurs probably wouldn't get much in return, probably just a 2nd round pick or two, and/or rights to some player stashed overseas, but the main benefit would just be the extra capspace.
I voted no,just not to get disappointed.
It's possible, since we are the only contenders left with the possibility to sign him.
I would scratch one of the PGs and add Oden to the Cs.
Amnestying Bonner actually saves money by either lowering or eliminating the tax bill.
I will say yes because I have zero jinx power.
Doubt it, unfortch.
All of this would have to happen:
-Belinelli's reported salary has to end up being wrong.
-The Spurs would have had to have somehow convinced Pendergraph to sign for the minimum a few days into free agency.
-The Spurs have to be willing to amnesty Bonner.
-Kirilenko will have to be okay with possibly being a bench player.
-Kirilenko will have to be okay with seeing his playing time go down to about 25 MPG.
-All the other desperate teams will have to find other targets.
-Kirilenko will have to be willing to take less money than he thought he could get coming into free agency.
I mean it's possible ...... but pretty damn unlikely, IMO.
The Spurs will be well below the tax threshhold with or without Bonner on the books. Using the amnesty on Bonner would only makes sense as part of a plan to create enough cap space to sign a FA to salary above the value of the MLE.
Bonner, the gift that keeps on giving in terms of ing things up.
Forget it. I give up hoping. It is not going to happen.
Maybe give up Bonner and DeColo via S&T with a Draft Pick or two could make this happen?
Is it too late to bring in Livio this season?
It isn't too late but he isn't NBA ready and is better in France than in Austin.
So much for a good backup. Who knows, maybe no one decides to sign AK47 30 minutes before the deadline and he is left with SAS as a choice..
I know, pipe dream..
But really makes me wonder who are backup 3 will be and why exactly they didn't handle that need..
You always have to look at the most obvious answer, even if you don't like it. The Spurs played with 4 rotation wings in the playoffs; Leonard, Green, Manu, and Neal. Plug in Belinelli for Neal and there you are.
Yeah, sound about right. I got used to seeing Sjax come of the bench as a backup SF which leads me to believe that Pop's system still does include a backup SF and that they just had to adjust when they cut him. I guess if you look at it, being taller does make belli a bit of an upgrade. a bit.
