NBA free agency rumors roundup: Warriors discussing 3-way sign-and-trade for Andre Iguodala
The Warriors have already agreed to sign Andre Iguodala, but a sign-and-trade would help them keep more cap flexibility. Elsewhere, there's more news involving Jeff Teague, Brandon Jennings and Monta Ellis

stephen jackson getting any takers ?
I think his nba career is over TBH. If Pop couldn't keep him in line I don't see any other team thinking that their coach would be able to.

It ends up being bad timing for Golden State. Besides having the MLE, a key to getting a sign-and-trade done was to allow them to keep their Bird Rights for Jack and their non-Bird Rights for Landry. But they already agreed with other teams. Had they been able to keep those two on board with the addition of Iggy, and whoever they can get with their MLE, they would have been able to build a pretty good second unit.

What is Atlanta doing? They are trying to blow their cap space on two players they didn't need in Millsap and Ellis instead of just taking or looking for a suitable center and small-forward. They may as well have taken the deal Golden State struck with Utah.
Mike Muscala and Lucas Nogueria are least quality backups.

I just don't get the signing of Andre Iguodala. They had a young nucleus with Curry, Thompson, and Barnes. That moves Barnes to the bench when he showed alot of potential. Like if we signed AI and put Kawhi to the bench. One would think that would hurt his development.

They basically salary dumped Richard Jefferson and Andris Biedrins, lost Jack and Landry, gave up 2 first rounders and 2 second rounders and are rumored to be giving the Jazz another second rounder in this proposed sign and trade, all for Andre Iguodala. I don't like it.

What's there roster look like now?

    Curry/?
    Thompson/?
    Iguodala/ Barnes
    Lee/ Greene
    Bogut/ Ezeli

Does anyone think they got better?

I think Iggy makes them better in a vacuum. He's better than Barnes and provides things (passing, driving, defense) that Golden State really needs in their starting lineup. That's not the same thing for the Spurs. Barnes also showed what he can do when given the ball in favorable match-ups. He'll get a lot more of those on the bench.

But the Warriors are worse after losing Jack and Landry. The whole point of the sign-and-trade was supposed to allow the Warriors to keep both while adding Iggy. But Denver held out long enough to torpedo Golden State's plan. Now, they only have the MLE, their picks and minimum salaries to rebuild their bench around Barnes and Ezeli.

Yeah, that's all well and good. I would have had no issue with the Hawks just trying to rebuild through the draft for at least one year. But they just used all their cap space to sign marginal All-Stars and redundant positions. That just seems weird to me.

Who do you think they can afford that's remaining?

(Would't that be something if Jack backed out of the Cavs and went back. Unlikely but possible. It happens.)

Wolves extend offer of $48 mil/4 years to RFA Pek.

This "market value" deal for Splitter is looking better and better by the day.

Gary Neal? They drafted a point-guard to take Jack's position, but they need a scorer to replace Jack's production. Perhaps Draymon Green can get a full spot in the rotation, but if not, there is still Blair, who'd work well in that system. They can try to work out sign-and-trades with the Spurs for those two.

Jefferson get 14 mil a year
Pekovic gets 12 mil a year

Splitter get 9 mil a year

Thing is, those the first two are better rebounders and post scorers, but they are not good PnR defenders or running the PnR on offense. Splitter was signed for Parker and Manu to run the PnR, which he is one the best in the league at doing it.

I wouldn't be surprised if Cuban threw a 12 mil a year salary at Splitter after he struck out with Howard. Spurs got a good deal for Splitter. yes, he had a bad finals, but hopefully he improves his jumpshot this year. He improved his FT and defense over the offseason. He used to hit 15-18 ft jumpers in Spain. He needs to start knocking those down next season if teams are going to cram the post against the Spurs.

Yah. If I remember correctly, they had interest in Blair earlier this year and for Neal he could absoulutely fill that role albeit the handles Jack had.

I'm interested to see how we handle Neals RFA. As of now I've only heard the Pistons being interested, but we ought to be able to extract something for Neal. Not bad for a undrafted signing from Europe.

Too bad the Spurs couldn't get in on the Golden State salary dump and get Rush for Neal and Blair. Brandon would have been a good backup to Kawhi, and he's an expiring contract.

Scoring is always at a premium, especially for bigs. Al Jefferson is an elite scorer & PEK is a much more potent scorer as well. Still, Tiago, if he can continue to grow is a fair value.

You lost me. GS salary dumped Rush. Why would they take back salary for Neal/Blair?

    So Monta wants $12m/season?

It's not clear what the market is for Ellis at this point, but a league source confirmed to CBSSports.com on Monday that the Kings are investigating their options for moving Chuck Hayes and Jimmer Fredette to accommodate Ellis' desire for a contract starting at $12 million per year. It may be Ellis' last chance to recoup the money he opted out of in Milwaukee.

They need to fill out their bench. They salary-dumped Rush since they already had two small-forwards in mind and Rush is too expensive to sit on the bench. They don't have a backup two-guard and backup four right now. They've managed to work out a sign-and-trade for Iguadola to free up their MLE. So clearly, the issue is no longer saving money.

Yeah, but at the time of the trade, they were clearing space for a straight FA signing.

Yes, you're correct. And they were dumb for that. Denver played them pretty well by holding out on the sign-and-trade until after the Warriors were desperate. The Spurs could probably still get in on the trade, but it's not worth the actual asset/s they'd have to give up to get Rush now.

The Warriors could well use their trade exceptions to acquire Neal and Blair, but they don't really have anything to give anymore.
