    History of professional wrestling

    From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Professional wrestling, a sport and performing art, is a popular form of entertainment in North America, Latin America, Europe, and Japan. Beginning in small, unorganized groups in the 1880s, wrestling's popularity boomed when independent enthusiasts unified and their media outlets grew in number. Professional wrestling became an international phenomenon in the 1980s with the expansion of the World Wrestling Federation. Throughout the 1990s, professional wrestling achieved highs in both viewership and financial success during a time of fierce compe ion among competing promotions, such as World Wrestling Federation, World Championship Wrestling and Extreme Championship Wrestling

He's the Club's version of boutons_deux. Never met a topic he didn't know everything about and pathologically unable to admit to being incorrect.

So if you golf alone it's not a sport?

Here's where you say....you're competing against yourself. So are the rasslers if they wanna stay in the business.
Golf is a skill, just like bowling. It's a two fold aspect at minimum, with athleticism and compe ion. Self compe ion LOL

Wrestling is COMPLETE and UTTER TRASH. It died when WCW went under and WW"E" lost the compe ive edge.

I loved Wrestling at one point, and I still enjoy watching wrestling from the 90's and early 00's. ECW was and will always be the best Wrestling the US has ever seen tbh.

    Wrong again.

Check the TV rankings, tell me what you see.

    So you have seen...

    WWA from LA
    CWA from Memphis
    AWA from the midwest
    NWA
    Mid South...Texas, Oklahoma. Louisiana
    World Class...Texas
    Stampede...Canada

ECW wouldn't make a zit on their ass. No stars!!!!!!!!!

The WWWF/WWF/WWE and WCW on a whole other level.

Lol, ratings. Wrestling SUCKS. This is coming from a hardcore wrestling fan for most of my life.

And don't even start with stars. I already went over the list of stars from ECW with you in one of the other wrestling threads. If these guys weren't stars then why did WCW/WWF raid all of their talent and sign them to lucrative deals?

Story lines are so bad these days, the characters are so childish, it's hard to watch. Honestly watching Lucha or Puroresu is the only way to go because they have almost no storyline and focus on a solid match with stiff moves that are much more dangerous than American moves..I've decided to bless you with some of the most dangerous moves from Japan over the years..

    Kenta Kobashi

    Toshiaki Kawada

    Mitsuhara Misawa

    Great stuff there.

Who was the biggest star to come out of ECW?

The best time for rasslin' was in the 80's. Big time shows all over the nation. Compe ion for that rasslin' dollar.

Yes McMahon has ed things up but to those just getting into it they don't know that. Guys like us can go one of two ways, become an old scrooge like you or set your DVR and fast forward past all the to get to the good stuff like me.

You didn't really address my previous post. But, it's no big deal. Agree to disagree. But I still can't accept a choreographed, storyline physical event as sport, no matter how athletic said participants are. Collegiate and Olympic wrestling, sure. But not the, entertainment "Pro" Wrestling.

Tough to call. Benoit, Mike Awesome, RVD, Eddy Guerrero all got pushed to WWE or WCW Champion. Then you get the Dudleys who were the top team for quite a while. Raven, Dean Malenko, Sabu, Rhyno, Tajiri, Sandman all had relative success in primetime as well.

It's not a sport. When you put that word aside and watch thinking from a risk of a botched move perspective, it becomes easier to appreciate it more. Some of these moves from the more talented wrestlers can be pretty crazy to have to take. Necks get broken pretty commonly in wrestling.

See if you can get this...

Pro wrestling is very compe ive. Everyone out there is trying to steal the show get the biggest...pop....out shine the others. Everyone wants to do the best job, yep just like at work. So we do have compe ion now add the obvious athletic skill and it's a sport
