Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant is expected to be paid $32 million in the last year of his contract for next season.

At 34 years of age last season, Bryant played at a All-NBA level, averaging 27.3 points, 5.6 rebounds and six assists before tearing his Achilles tendon at the end of the year.

When it comes to re-negotiating a new contract with the team, Bryant is likely not about to play for a one-year minimum salary worth $1.45 million. He was asked if there was any chance of him taking a pay cut in 2014.

“I’m not taking any at all – that’s the negotiation that you have to have.” Bryant told Lakers Nation on Wednesday. “For me to sit here and say, ‘Oh yeah, I’m just going to take a huge pay cut. Nah, I’m going to try to get as much as I possibly can.”

He will be a Laker, be given a blank check and be left to decide the fate of the franchise.

    Simple.

Anything more than $15 million a year is overpaying. And I'm being generous. What was Timmy and KG's last contract look like? Kobe's probably thinking how much money Mike made when he was in his late 30's.

No , that got Kirby won't give up one red cent, tbh.... look for him to make $40 mil a year for his last contract before he retires, tbh....

Kobe will decide his own salary, there will be negotiation. He can decide to aim low and give his team a chance or aim high and never realize his 6th ring.

My guess would be $42 mil over 3 years and the third would be a player option.

Even at $22-25 mil/yr, I think that would still make him as the highest paid player, if I'm not mistaken.

I agree $15 million max. He asks for more deservedly or not that shows his priority is money over #6. I can't be mad none of you would take less if you had leverage.

What nobody is saying (except Bryant himself if the OP's quote is accurate) is that Bryant's priorities are in this order. 1. Highest salary in history 2. Most points in history 3. Dictate all decisions for the franchise 4. Most points in history 5. Most power in history 6. Most points in history 7. If it so happens along the way to win another ring, then hey, so be it. Seriously, anyone who thinks - at this point - that Bryant is about winning championships is just facing the reality of who Bryant is. He's run prime Shaquille out of town, and now Dwight. The championship talk gets him more money. It's simply posturing.
