Worst off-season of all time.
LOL yeah, 7 or 8! Being if damn Horry does not hit that shot in 05 one less! That is three! If in 07 we don't pass the SUNS that series which they were a real threat that is two! Memorial DAY MIRACLE DOES NOT FALL! Maybe just one! So yeah it should have been 6 IMO but it could have been less too! IF HORRYS SHOT FALLS IN 03 in game 5 forget it! We are stuck on ONE! GET IT? Okay.
That is life you get some breaks and you don't get some breaks, we had a few, accept it and live with it.
This must be your first off-season as a Spurs fan or something?
Marc Stein @ESPNSteinLine
Just got firm word that Cavs -- after signing Andrew Bynum -- are no longer pursuing Greg Oden. Mavs now IN Oden race led by Spurs & Heat
I just don't see the interest in Oden for the Spurs, he isn't a SF/small ball PF.
I want Oden. It's that simple. Don't care about anyone else on the market. I want to take the risk on Oden. I've been looking at him since before the Spurs signed Baynes last season.
The Spurs already have bigs on their roster they can develop without the risk of injury and wasting roster spot; Spurs need another SF/small ball PF
Drafting DeShaun Thomas might give the Spurs the edge here. He said he has been playing some pickup ball and worked out with him at OSU for awhile now. It appears that they are good friends.
Because this reason I think the Spurs are actually are in driving seat to sign Oden if he does make a comeback, that is if they want to sign him.
If the Spurs got Oden it woudl be on a league min contract. It's worth a shot. There aren't any SF's worth anything in free agency, so if the Spurs are going to get a guy at that position who actually has a chance of contributing something this year it's going to be via a trade.
Upside if he stays healthy for short term and long term. Even if his ceiling (due to health) is a back up center, I have no problem with that at all. Everyone talks about rim protection and rebounding once Duncan sits. A guy like that covers up perimeter defensive woes (as you already know). We have two guards that get little to no playing time as it is, who have not had any impact on our team aside from morale boasting. One of which, let the media know he wasn't particularly happy about not playing. So I have no issue moving either to sure up the SF position if Oden is acquired.
spurs sign oden and he plays well they can keep him or trade him
Darnell Mayberry @DarnellMayberry Word at the Orlando Summer League is the Toronto Raptors have offered Dwight Buycks their backup point guard job. Buycks has accepted.
Doesn't matter. Oden is worth taking a chance on.
Not really a surprise. He had a terrific year in France, ending with the MVP le.
If Spurs get Oden, they will start to have a lot of centers with Duncan, Splitter, Baynes, Oden and Pendergraph (Rc said he could play C). He might allow them to trade way Baynes.
With Bonner, De Colo, mills and Baynes, Spurs could absorb in a trade over $10M for players that aren't really in Spurs rotation. All 4 have an expiring contract.
that would probably make more sense to try around the trade deadline. assuming we got oden, it would be prudent to see if mr. glass can last to the mid season without shattering something.
I hope they get Oden, it would best for him. And isn't DRob his idol? If he can stay healthy (big IF) he could anchor the C spot for a long time after TD retires.
Oden was terrific the last time he played in the NBA in 09-10. He had a 23.1 PER in 21 games before being injured. He is also only 25 years old. For a minimum salary, signing him is a no-brainer.
A very low risk, very high reward case
That is my only hope to salvage this off season, but unless he has the smarts to see that SA is the best place for him and his career, then he goes to Miasma or Dildos!
What are the chances he signs here
Absolutely worth a min contract but he'll end up with the Heat.
It's the most likely scenario...which sucks
IMHO not very good since Miami and Dallas are after him too. Unless he really sees the resurrection of his career and the influence of DRob, TD, and Pop as aids to that, we have no chance. Major FAs rarely if ever come here unless they are really smart.
Miami is an ideal place to go atm, I get the logic there...Dallas not so much imo
oden said he migh twait tell aug to make up his mind
miama and spurs are the frontrunners
I would say Miami is the clear favorite.
Spurs huge edge is having, with Pop, the coach that take the more care of his players health. Even if Oden is playing at his 09-10 level, Pop won't overplay him at the cost of his knees.
