It's funny that people prop LeBron up for making it through the Leastern Conference in 2007. When he played the Spurs, he was swept - and no one said . He colludes to play on a stacked team, now he's the best thing since sliced bread. If we won in Cleveland - a team that was built around him - I'd give him his props. But he didn't.
I know u want to compare the two, but its pointless. Kobe ed his way onto a team that outspent everyone from the start, a team that always got great talent. Those Cav teams were nothing special outside of Lebron. You put Rapist on those Cav teams instead of Lebron and they are much more of a joke. Put Lebron on those stacked, blockbuster teams with prime Shaq... , probably win at least 5.

You telling me any 2nd banana gets Shaq through the WC - including your Spurs?

Depends. I mean 01 was gonna happen if I suited up next to Shaq. 02 shouldn't have happened, but with the basketball "gods" behind the Lakers it was destiny anyways.

'00 is the biggest question, so you're probably right on that one. You'd need an all star caliber 2nd banana to win, so any of the big name SGs at the time woulda worked

You are looking at box score stats. The fact Shaq had the other team's most dominant players giving him all the attention, in addition to him being an elite passing big man, is the reason Kobe at times appeared to take the lead. It was all driven by Shaq being the man and doing what it took to win (score, pass, draw attention...). That's not to say Kobe was not great/is not great, but that is the honest truth - take it for what it's worth.

MJ has proven himself to be one of the worst talent evaluators of all time. That is not hyperbole either.
That doesn't make any sense. Shaq averaged 2.5 apg for his career. That's hardly elite.

If Shaq was so dominant, when Robinson was in his twilight years, how come CIA Pop didn't go out and get some stud to combat him? He went out and Rasho, or 54 year old Kevin Willis, or Muhammed. OTOH, you guys went out and got the best perimeter defender in the last 20 years to stop Kobe from pushing your in.

Not to mention... a prime Kobe destroys Dallas on every level. Prime James doesn't even reach his average in one single game.
Exactly. Kobe could have scored 90 points on Dallas that night. I wish PJ would have let him play in the 4th quarter.

And he didn't even slow Kobe down... with or without Shaq. In fact... Pop's instructions to Bowen was "don't even look him in his ing eyes."

It's true. Kobe owns Dallas. That night he scored 62 points after 3 qtrs was legendary. He absolutely could have scored 90 points. No doubt in my mind. OTOH, LeBron never owned Dallas. Thems be the facts son. Neal with it.

Don't have me get Kool to post Kobe highlights of destroying the Spurs.
So we're basing great player analysis on who destroys the Spurs?

I guess Jarrett Jack belongs in this discussion too.

    • Another factoid: You never won when the Celtics, Lakers, or Pistons were good.
    • Another factoid: You took advantage of Bird, Magic, and Zeke getting old.
    • Another factoid: You took advantage of the league getting watered down with the cHeat, T'Pups, Grizzlies, etc. watering down the league talent
    • Another factoid: You pushed off and got away with it.

    Congrats

No, but the Spurs are the best barometer for both players. They both played the Spurs when young and in their prime. Both are wing players. But only Kobe was able torch the Spurs when the Spurs were at their best... from 2001-2007.
