Well, that prices the Spurs out.....

very risky move by the hornets but at least they are trying to make a splash.
3 Million LOL Desperate.
Yep, what else is new with Neal and his garbage D or lack thereof.
That and letting Chalmers shoot a 3 to end the 3rd of Game 7. Spurs were up before that, IIRC.
Yea, just going through the motions with no sense of urgency. Just made absolutely no sense.
Yep, up 2 to down 1 entering the 4th quarter... and that play just another example of what we let the Heat do in Game 7, walk into their shots. There is a difference between giving a player space to force them to shoot and letting them dribble back and forth to get in rhythm before taking the shot; especially after you realize said player is knocking down the outside shot.
I read an article a while back that was meant to slam the Portland medical folks on how they handled Oden. One of the things that struck me was a reference to Oden's unhappiness as to the nightlife in Portland. It made me think that if he ends up in Miami or New Orleans it aint for strictly basketball reasons.
In fairness, that's the shot they weren't making all series. Unfortunately D-wade and LeBron remembered that they were capable jump-shooters in the final game of series.
I agree but once you see they are making those shots, you have to give them less space; simple adjustment.
You don't think San Antonio can compete with the night life in Miami or New Orleans?
That includes the Spurs.
He's just trying to help out.
That's not an unreasonable contract, but makes him doubtful for Spurs now. Best of luck to the guy.
So much publicity for a guy struggling to get $3M on the open market. Unwarranted?
Just out of curiosity, what would the minimum contract for Oden be per the CBA? I'm wondering what the difference would be between the $3M that NO is supposedly offering compared to the minimum contract from either Miami or SA, especially when you add in the lack of a state income tax (even though I realize that it wouldn't be an astronomical difference).
I'm going to guess that an extra ~$1M isn't going to sway Oden to choose the Pelicans over a Championship-level team like the Spurs or the Heat. I think that this is his agent's attempt to get Oden more than a minimum deal from either the Spurs or Heat.
But the Spurs minimum deal comes without state income taxes so he would get more here than in Miami.
Oden is financially set and has said on numerous occasions he'd prefer to play for a contender. He isn't going to sign with the Pelicans for a measly 3M.
league min for Oden is going to be $1m +/-. Top tax rate for Lousiana income tax is 6%. 94% of $3 mil is still going to be a whole lot bigger than 100% of $1 mil. Federal income taxes obviously being ignored.
Florida doesn't have a state income tax either.
Florida has no state income tax as well
Are we sure about that? He's "only" made $23 mil. We've seen guys who've made a whole lot more than that find a way to blow it all.
I was thinking that the minimum for Oden would be ~$1.2M-1.4M, but even if it is closer to $1M I don't see a financially set person choosing a perennial lottery team like the the Pelicans over either of the teams from this past year's Finals ~$1.5M. Obviously I could be wrong, but that's just my take.
