Would think a deal for Dwight gets done next week with Houston after the Asik thing. Orlando can't afford to hold onto him while Dwight's camp makes it known repeatedly that he'll be a rental.

With the report that Brousard's sources never claimed that Dwight would "sign an extension", instead go into FA seeking more years and more money AND STILL basically promise that he'll sign with the Lakers - how would this be possible? The Lakers will have over $70M tied up in 5 players next year even after Bynum is off the books. How would they be able to offer Dwight a max deal if they are already well over the cap (and even the luxury tax threshold)? Do they get his Bird rights or is there some other type of exception? Would they have to amnesty someone? I apologize if this has been discussed elsewhere and I missed it. Thanks in advance for the clarification.

Well if I'm not wrong you can't sign FA when you are over the cap but you can resign your players.

Example: Jordan Hill. Lakers are over the cap but he can resign 2 years-8m

    Dwight probably doesn't realize it.

I have a feeling that after his back surgery Howard isn't going to be the same player anyway. If I were the Lakers I'd stick with Bynum.

I understand the hatred for Dwight Howard the person, he's corny as , he's painfully unfunny, and he has looked foolish throughout this entire process..

However, this seems to have clouded some opinions of Howard the player..following Lebron and Durant, Howard is unquestionably the next best player IMO..he has spent his best years carrying horrible defensive players, still managing to form the Magic into a perennially great defensive team..

His post-up game has made yearly improvements, even adding a semblance of a jump shot, the past 2 years..the only remaining flaws are his passing out of the post, and his mental immaturity/weakness(the former is fixable, not sure about the latter)..

It seems as if many people have tried to convince themselves that his back problems will limit his effectivess, which is possible, but I doubt it..

I'm as big of a Bynum fan as anybody on ST(outside of Blessings and IronMexican), but Howard over Bynum is an absolute no-brainer..this is typical fear of the Lakers from fans trying to downplay a potential power move..

I wouldn't put Howard in the top 3 in the league. He just happens to be a star center in a generation without star centers.

Say what you will about Howard and the sad state of today's NBA centers, but his ability to affect both sides of the court is only surpassed by LeBron's.

20/10 guy on a team that actually wins games even if he plays with scrubs and washed-up former stars.

Sad state of affairs when the fan of a team with nothing to show in 3 decades of NBA basketball besides a 2nd round sweep, a 1st round backdoor sweep and a pacific division banner is the one talking .

And have you done better in the past 3 years?

    2011 - 2nd round sweep
    2012 - 4 - 1 2nd round loss
    2013 - swept in the 1st round, 7 seed with all-star starting 5 and 4 HOFs

Clippers have not accomplished anything since they have come to LA, they have some work to do. They made some great acquisitions this year. Prior to these past two years, I really didn't even think they had a fan base.
