Can't forget about Lupe Fiasco and Talib Kweli either....
yeah I find this to be true. Proclaimed innocence, but really I think he was innocent honestly. Tupac, as you know, who're his heart on his sleeve and just couldn't hold things he wanted to say back, and if you look at any interviews he had during the sodomy trial he would just straight up no hesitation emphatically tell you he he didn't do that and wouldnt hesitate to answer journalist questions in or whatever but whatever, I'm going ona big tupac innocence rant now, when the dudes gone. but yeah that album was the pinnacle of his work probably. And his death row records have some good singles, but arent as complete as a whole and have their share of fillers.
Yeah, NWA and Ice T kinda blew everything up in 89, 90. Gangster rap set the world on fire and then after G-Funk, set the standard for west coast rap for the better part of the 90s.
I gotta throw out Bone Thugs out there too. Their first 3 albums were classic and they were originators in their own right. I'd never heard any group that could rap like that and combine it with singing on top of their strong lyricism and beats.

Those are all classic East Coast hip hop albums. If Liquid Swords isn't the best hip hop album of all time, it's certainly top 5. Big L, Ice Cube O.C and Lord Finesse all my personal favorites also.
Ice Cube is one of my faves every, as a youngin I played his album the Predator all summer long along with Onyx Bacdafucup! 92-93 a great time in hip hop.Lupe just went bannanas the last few years with tweets etc., but when he was focused he was crazy. Talibs Debut solo is sick, played that one he made with Hi Tek out.Chuck D is one of the most slept on pioneers ever, he influenced Cube with the political side etc. His voice is the most powerful in hip hop IMO.
Listen to the album Prodigy and Alchemist just released... in dope as !
Kweli as apart of Blackstar (his verse on "Repsiration" maybe one of the best verses I ever heard). I haven't got ten too much into his solo yet.
Lupe Fiasco has fallen off IMO. He was a great artist but has lost some of what made his first two albums great. His mixtapes are still good though.
If he ever release an his album, I might faint. "Close Your Eyes" and "Voodoo Man" are personal favs.
Damn I forgot to check that out. I had return of the Mac back in the day.
I'm starting to think we're musical soul-mates.![]()
Great music is great music, and when it comes with a message and is timeless..... No matter what genre, forget it! CLASSIC.
