now that we're out of the dark ages and people aren't wiping their asses with their finger (sans aggie last piece of toilet paper joke), why do countries still stand for forms of monarchy? i can see the benefit of having one in an uneducated society, but who really gives a about royal families sitting on billions and billions of dollars worth of assets just to run "charities," do tabloids and whose only occupation is "being royal?"

Royal family is the only extant relic from their old glorious days, so they need to keep it as a nostalgic symbol or something they can masturbate to. And it's also a symbol of their claims to the former colonies that they used to own, which makes them pround and feel superior to other European countries. Just like Lakers and Kobe in some way, they know it costs big $ to keep him but their heart usually tells them from interior that they can't afford to lose him.

The Royal Family is a grotesque relic of a less civilized time. The only just thing for a member of the Royal Family to do is, at age 18, to renounce all the privileges of their position and spend the remainder of their natural life denouncing the ins ution of monarchy and working feverishly to repay the public treasury for the outrageous and undignified years of support they've received. Since all of the current members of the Royal Family have passed the age of majority without having performed this basic nod towards civility, they are in contempt of the public trust. Confiscate their wealth, sell off their possessions, lock them up for theft, and strike all appropriations for the Royal Family from the public budget. Auction off the crown jewels, use the money to buy gasoline, and burn the queen's home to ground during a grand national celebration of the birth of a new society in which the public's money is put to use for the public's own benefit, and fame is accorded to those who have earned it by doing something more than being born with the right last name.

They're absolutely a waste of tax payer money but why are Americans paying each big-name celebrity millions of dollars a year? They get paychecks from movie companies but the cost will still transfer onto your heads, the wool always comes from the sheep's back.
