Haters. The Mac Pro is what's keeping me from totally hating Apple as a company and a brand.

    Not sure if serious.

Build a PC with the same components, save 16K.

Well, a FULLY loaded Mac Pro is 15K. Realistically, who the needs TWO 6-core processors? I on processor heavy games/apps with a single 3570k overclocked to 4.5 Ghz. 64 GB of RAM? People think I'm insane for buying 16 GB.. More than 3 TB HDD??? That damn thing will end up failing before you fill 5 GB.

Also that setup includes DUAL Apple monitors, which I'm guessing are Retina level or better, them s are probably upwards of 1K a piece.

If you load up a PC like that, it's gonna run you $10K+ too... those Westmere processors are $1500 a pop from NewEgg...

Actually, I take that back... those Cinema are IPS at 2560x1440, and while Apple sells them for $1000, you can get similar chinese monitors for about $400...

It's so strange for me to say, but spending over $1000 on a computer is insane.

That being said, I think the original Mac (circa 1983-1984) was around $2500.

    Lol.

You should look at the specs of the Apollo 11 guidance computer. It's amazing what they did with such little computational power compared to how little we accomplish today, with so much computational power.

But in all seriousness I just want a future-proof power machine. I'll use it for what a regular computer user does plus the occasional video editing and mathematical software. I'm sure this machine is gonna blow both tasks away.

Depends on what you need... you can spend easily over $1K-$2K for high-end server/pro setups.

We have a couple of servers with dual-Xeons and the CPUs alone will put you over $1K...
