they have Jason Richardson. But damn that team sucks. Don't think they'll get 15 wins. It will be a nice tanking season with them, Orlando, Utah and Phoenix.
They wont get 15wins, and they`ll need more than one good draft to be back in playoffs.

First timers can rarely afford to be picky about a HC position. If he turns this down, he may not get another offer in the future. It's called "paying your dues".

Actually Spurs would be better off with Manu coaching on the bench than Manu being on the floor and passing the ball to the other team tbh.

Sean Marks has been part of the coaching staff too, and could be due a promotion if this works out for Brett...
Marks is a part of the front office, not the coaching staff.

what does taking a job where your job is to lose do for your long term future?

It keeps doors to future jobs open. Teams won't think you're afraid of a challenge.

That`s not a challenge. Philly is at the beginning of tanking to take talents. Coach job is to lose as many games at it is possible, while developing some really raw material - Noel.

That's one line of thinking. But, another is that, the only jobs that are open (usually) are from teams that are not good, and have fired their previous coach. In that case, they're probably looking to fill the position with a proven old-timer (Larry Brown or George Karl) or a young/new guy with no HC experience and see if they have the next big thing. Teams that are bad and need a rebuild aren't probably lining up to hire guys that have failed in previous attempts at the same situation.

I think Oberto is more or less on standby. If Brown takes the Philly job, I think Oberto is hired on in SA.

The talent (or lack of) will lose the games. That was set in stone when they made their roster moves this summer. The challenge is to keep the players playing hard and develop what talent there is. Monte Williams is a good example.

This. Monte Williams and the then-NOH is a very good example. He made his players compete hard and believe that they could win a game. I actually was nervous when Spurs was facing them during the previous seasons.

I think Kelvin Sampson would be a candidate as well.

Very few guys have held 3 NBA HC positions and would consider going back to being an assistant. They usually save their money and wait for another HC position.

Good for Brett. If he wins in that environment, he'll be a genius. If he loses, he'll have done what everyone expects.

Getting a 4 years contract is nice for Brett Brown. He could still be waived after 1 or 2 years but it's less likely because it will cost money to Sixers. Coaching the worst team in the league won't be a pleasure but Brett Brown will have the hope that he will have a good team after a couple of rough seasons.

I was just getting tired of the waiting. I mean, really, it wasn't that big of a deal. Brown will probably be the coach for the next two or three seasons then get fired when the Sixers hang around the lottery and rebuild. This is just understood.

Good luck to him, though. I kind of like the Sixers after going to school in Philadelphia. I'd like to see them turn it around, but that seems to be a long ways off.

Best of luck to him. Hopefully he can turn a poor team around.
