Good pickup for UTSA. I don't blame Greg though, I mean why would you want to back up 3 star Martel Summers in HS then go to TXST and do it again.

Summers was a huge get for you guys tbh. But I think Kelleys decision had alot more to with what UTSA has to offer imo...CUSA is more attractive than the SunBelt as is our OOC schedule compared to yours. This actually wasnt a head to head win against Texas State as much as it was against Rice, another CUSA school.

Yesterday Kelley told me that Rice and Texas State were still in the mix for a decision. But today he told me the decision really came down to two schools

"I was deciding between Rice and UTSA. TxSt had offered me, but I really didn't want to play football there... I did visit Rice too. But I felt much more comfortable at UTSA because I loved the environment and also the people and coaches." - Kelley
If I were Texas State I would try to get into CUSA asap, otherwise they will be at a disadvantage in recruiting against all the other Go5 Texas schools.

Yeah I'm sure competing for the job with others including his former HS teammate had nothing to do with his decision. I agree Conference does play a factor in who our recruits choose but CUSA is not the one. I think Sun Belt is just as good if not better in compe ion, the only black eyes we have are NMST and IDAHO. What we are seeing at TXST is largely the Big 12 and AAC that we are losing to. Baylor and UH are who we are losing to mostly, which could be a conference thing or it could be the fact that both of them are dangling that carrot of a new stadium in front of recruits. If we don't get them to visit campus the odds are slim and right now it seems getting them to San Marcos is quite the challenge.

So if given the option, you wouldnt move to CUSA? Sure, CUSA isnt some elite conference but its also not at the bottom of the food chain like the Sunbelt. For recruits that arent getting BCS offers their preference is likely AAC, CUSA, and then Sunbelt schools (in that order).

If I was giving the option I honestly don't think I would place one conference above the other after you get past the Power 5 (BIG 10, XII, SEC, ACC, PAC12). If you don't go to a Power 5 I think the decision process becomes more difficult because you have to really analyze your position and you start considering alot more variables. School size, Tradition, Gameday Attendance, Academics, Geography, Compe ion, Coaching Staff, Player Depth, Teammates, Facilities, Bowls, Drafting History etc. etc.

Disagree. Those other things play their role in the decision as well but if Im a recruit and I dont land in a recognized Power 5 conference I want the next best thing. The best of the crop of players without Power 5 offers are more worried about football than all the other variables. Not to mention alot of those things are interrelated with conference affiliation (i.e. facilities, bowls, compe ion, geography). Sunbelt schools arent jumping to CUSA just for fun tbh, they realize its a move up.

    AAC>MWC>CUSA/MAC>Sunbelt

As a SWT (now TSU) alumn I can honestly say that UTSA football is already on equal terms with TSU after only having a program for 2 seasons. I just cannot ever fathom the idea that TSU will ever get the backing of the community and school for there football program after so many years of average to subpar seasons. I have seen more support these 2 last seasons for UTSA than I ever did at SWT and they had already had football program for 20+ yrs. Do not get me wrong I am proud Bobcat Alumn and will always root for them but I believe there football program is already trailing UTSA by slim margin and that margin will widen even more with each passing season.

Alright another Bobcat!!! I want to correct you on one thing though. The correct acronym for your university is TXST and not TSU. I sent you a PM with a lot of information on how to get reconnected with your university. If there are any others, who would like more info on how to get involved, please fee free to Message me. Thank you and Eat'em UP CATS!!!

An all-district football player for Leander has been arrested on charges of sexually assaulting a 4-year-old boy, according to an arrest warrant.
Gregory Raymond Kelley, 18, was charged Monday with aggravated sexual assault of a child. He did not return a call requesting comment. He is a senior at Leander High School.
According to the arrest warrant, he was living at a Cedar Park home between December 2012 and June 2013 that was being used as an in-home daycare when the incident occurred. The home is in the 2000 block of Marysol Trail, the warrant said.
A 4-year-old boy who attended the daycare told his mother on July 12 that Kelley had exposed himself and made the boy touch him on two occasions, the warrant said. The boy told investigators at the Williamson County Children’s Advocacy Center the same thing during an interview July 23, according to the warrant.
Kelley was arrested and released from the Williamson County Jail on Aug. 9 with bail set at $50,000, according to court records.
Kelley, a defensive back who had 68 tackles and four sacks during Lions’ 2012 season, told reporters in June that he had verbally committed to play football at the University of Texas at San Antonio. He said then that he also had offers from Texas State and Rice.

Back on topic-- two corn fed white boys from Oklahoma just committed today as a package deal tbh. One had an offer from Rutgers the other from Kansas State. Hopefully we keep them committed.
