Surprised this didn't get posted yet...
An 18 year old brandished a knife on Saturday and told everyone on the streetcar to leave. Police arrived on the scene and he was shot at 9 times and tasered afterwards. He later died in hospital.
Officer has been suspended with pay, pending the investigation.

I wonder if the heritage of his surname had anything to do with his threatening people with a knife?
Sammy Yatim...
I'm not going to lose any more brain cells reading this post again.
Good idea. You don't need to lose any more.
Why did you point out the suspension? It is routine rather than disciplinary to suspend an officer with pay after shooting someone.
soooooo...coward cop lets of 9 shots thennnn tases the suspect? horrible police work. shame that he's getting paid right now, he needs to be fired and that police department needs to be investigated. RIP, sammy.

It's not routine, dumbass.
No hostages, nothing. He was isolated in a streetcar. A person on the streetcar was interviewed and said he didn't feel ever in actual danger.
The police chief was sweating bullets.
This is one of those SITUATIONS where it appears a taser would have been more than enough to disarm the suspect.
Of course, right now everyone's panties would be twisted because he got tased - but no one needed to get shot IMO.
Why would anyone be complaining if he was tasered? That in all likelihood would have ended the standoff immediately.
Well, I'm not going to loose sleep over it when someone is dumb enough to bring a knife to a gun fight.
Seriously?
"man, those in' pigs didn't have to tase him - they could have wrestled the knife away!" "man. that is b.s. there were 20 pigs against 1 guy - they didn't have to tase him blah-blah"
This time - they SHOULD have tased him - taken the knife away - handcuffed him and taken him in.Period.
100 cops vs 1 dude with a knife
All that training + taser + pepper spray .......
Very useful
Cops
Cowards
dumbasses probably grew up in the 18th century then travelled to today via a time machine so he doesn't even though what "guns" are, or he was just under the influence of drugs while doing that stupid thing. Cops are just pussies in general they could've subdued him with bare hands but they couldn't care less about the life of the 18yr old stupid ass. Cops don't wanna suffer even a tiny cut on their skin, sometimes they'll shoot some "thugs" to death only to prevent them from spitting on their shiny shoes
Pigs.
wHAT THE NEWS FAILED TO REPORT WERE THAT THE BULLETS WERE BLANKS... WE ALL KNOW COPS AND CANADA DONT USE REAL BULLETS....
BUMP
Cop charged with second degree murder.

Yes, because most knife fights end up with people only getting minor cuts on their skin.
About time. I'm sure the SIU was in tears while laying these charges.
I'm as big a " Tha Po-lice" advocate as any, but those "Justice 4 Sammy" rally pictures are hilarious. The police were wrong, but clearly this kid was a ing lunatic. He pulled a knife on a bus, broke the law pretty severely, and didn't drop his knife when policeman with guns told him to. He was re ed and the world is a better place when idiots like him are dead.
Yeah, he obviously wasn't stable, as he was holding a knife in one hand and his in the other. I don't think anyone is debating that part, but his ed up issues essentially become a side note when an officer decides to shoot him 9 times (and taser) from a distance in an empty streetcar with no one in danger. People break the law severely all the time (people even in right state of mind), but we don't expect them to be filled with lead when they aren't a threat. Otherwise, you might as well give an average Joe the ability to handle crime-prevention.
And really, this isn't the first time it's happened in Toronto. Last year, an escaped patient brandishing a pair of scissors and a hospital gown (in dead winter) was shot dead by police. in the 90s, mentally ill guy with a tiny hammer was shot dead on a bus. Good thing there were no cameras then.
