What's the big deal? He's just exercising his second amendment rights.

When will you people learn that it is a FACT that the states with the toughest gun control laws have the fewest gun deaths? You can't stop people from being bad or crazy, you can only control what means they have to exercise those "qualities".

Dude, when the guys are arrested and in jail being charged with murder, that's justice. Why is everyone bringing up Trayvon Martin? This isn't the same at all.

And i agree, this will just be another re ed gun control debate. We're not giving you the guns, gots, stop trying.

It is unlawful for any person under 18 years of age to possess any weapon, except rifles or shotguns used in education, hunting, or sport. Any firearm confiscated from a person under 18 by law enforcement upon arrest or detainment is subject to forfeiture.
Yeah, what was needed was a law...

Jesse and Al have been replaced by Drudge and Rush whatever other conservative bloggers you guys get your cues from. It's the only way anyone could possibly see any similarities in the two killings.

    You sure about that?

    http://www.examiner.com/article/excl...-of-gun-deaths

    July 13, 2013
The ten states given the highest ratings by the Brady Campaign for having the most stringent gun control legislation have about triple the amount of gun deaths compared to the ten states that have the least restrictive gun legislation, according to data compiled by the Examiner.

Using data from Slate, who has been tracking gun deaths in America since the tragic mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School, the Examiner also found that the Brady Campaign's highest rated state for having the most restrictive gun legislation, California, also had the highest number of gun deaths (677) since the Sandy Hook shooting.

Using Slate's figures, the Examiner tallied the numbers of gun deaths for each state, and compared them to rankings by the Brady Campaign, which gives scores by state for the most versus the least restrictive gun control laws. Notably, their scores do not include legislation passed in the past year. The Brady Campaign used data from the Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence to determine state rankings.

The top ten states with the most restrictive gun laws had 2,002 gun deaths, versus the ten states with the least restrictive gun laws, which totaled 696 gun deaths. The state with the fewest restrictions on firearms (and therefore the lowest scored), Utah, has had 29 gun deaths since Sandy Hook.

If the top state for gun deaths, California, is removed entirely from the equation, the total number of gun deaths would fall to 1,325 for the states with the most stringent gun control laws, which is still a significant difference from the tally of 696 gun deaths from the top ten least restrictive gun states.

Slate's tally includes people killed by police, suicide, or criminals killed by their potential victims all in one big category. Famously, one of the people listed on Slate’s piece was Tamerlan Tsarnaev, whose name was read as a "gun violence victim" during a gun control rally sponsored by “Mayors Against Illegal Guns."

According to their most recent update (in mid-June), Slate determined that 6,095 people have been killed via firearm since Sandy Hook (and the author of the Slate piece believes the actual figure is higher, as “roughly 60 percent of deaths by gun are due to suicides,” which are rarely reported as news).

Using these sources alone, it seems that if there is any correlation to “gun deaths” and gun control laws, at the very least, it would be that the most stringent gun control legislation does not make gun deaths go down.

The focus on “gun crime” alone encourages trends related to violent crime to be ignored, such as criminal history, gang involvement, mental health history, age, gender, race, socioeconomic factors as well as proximity to urban areas. Indeed, Slate includes gender and age in their study, but dismisses these other factors.

While the figures here do not account for population (obviously, densely populated areas would be much more likely to result in more violent crime), the figures do indicate that there are other trends worth exploring if the real goal is to reduce violent crime.

Well, obviously the two cases are quite different.

The Trayvon Martin case was cold-blooded murder by a white-hispanic racial profiler.

In contrast, this shooting of Chris Lane had to do with global warming and lax gun control laws.

Hey that's funny sarcasm, you hit all of the points you're the most butthurt about. Now seriously, why do you think these cases are similar? You obviously thought there was some kind of hypocrisy at play here when you rushed to make this post in the Club thread. Lay it on us.

Obviously this puts a national spotlight on that Oklahoma state law that allows teens to commit murder in cold blood. Maybe they'll eventually be arrested and charged.
