So do you currently think there is equal punishment among whites and blacks regarding drug sentencing?
The argument is that in reality there is more black on white murders but the media sensationalizes any time it's white on black. Much like how liberals accuse conservatives on sensationalizing Muslim Terrorist.
As far as our drug laws, I'm open to hearing evidence that shows black drug offenders receive unequal punishment to white drug offenders. If that's the case I'm in on trying to fix it, but as far as racial violence it's a real possibility that blacks may be the biggest offenders.
Again, I'm not interested in perception but care most about reality and what the data has to say.
So do you currently think there is equal punishment among whites and blacks regarding drug sentencing?
I suspected this to be true. One of my passions is life is to help ex-convicts wipe the slate clean. Carnegie Mellon conducted a study that showed ex-convicts who remained clean for 7 years were no more likely to commit a crime than the general population. Yet, we banish ex-cons to a lifetime of employment discrimination. The inability for ex-cons to redeem themselves disproportionately, and unfairly, affects minorities.
I think what the study seems to overlook is the quality of legal representation available to defendants. My guess (just a guess, not verified) is that caucasian offenders have better legal representation (as a result of them being more likely to have the financial resources available for better legal representation) and thus more favorable sentencing.
If George Zimmerman had been arrested and convicted of murdering Trayvon Martin, like Chris Lane's killers were and will be, there would have been a lot less national media "sensationalism" as you put it. The controversy stemmed from a good portion of the country feeling that justice was not being served. And media coverage is not justice.

"And media coverage is not justice."
through all media coverage, the few, insuffiicient facts of the TM murder case were clear, but GZ lied his ass off.
media coverage is not justice
but FL kill-the-n!gg@s SYG LAWS are not justice, either, just laws.
But even if you do feel that National Media Coverage = Justice...

Just look at all of those MS Liberal Media outlets ignoring this story.
happens almost every day. The reason it got national attention was because of skin color.
Almost every day someone tracks down a su ious looking teenager in a neighborhood, confronts them and then kills them, despite being told by 911 dispatch not to, then gets released on no charges. I guess I need to get out more.
Why call 911 if your intent is to kill?
I didn't say his intent was to kill. I said he killed him.
See, this is where all of you Trayvon whiners are ing up.
We don't have a justice system and never claimed to have a justice system.
We have a legal system.
Big difference.
I'm not suggesting otherwise. You guys can have the Team Trayvon vs. Team Zimmerman bull . I'm just talking about the difference in the two stories when it comes to media coverage. I've always been on Team We Don't Really Know What the Happened.
not sure of the point of acting silly, but almost every day someone, including young people, are murdered in cold blood. If you want to bury your head in the sand and ignore the racial fervor of the case that's your prerogative.

Not all murders are racially motivated. I don't doubt there is more black on white crime in general due to the disparity in economic situations. That being said, I gave you some very prominent examples of clear cut racially motivated (even if systematic) crimes. You're going to have to wait decades after events like this before the perceptions around them fade. I would argue that the reality behind them needs to change first, too. And maybe thats happening and maybe its not. We'll only know further on down the line.
You should get a room with DMC. Semantic tap dancing based up on made up nonsense in the first place does not make an argument.
And what you've just described is not how half the country saw the Trayvon story. Hence the controversy. Hence the ongoing media attention. No one is ignoring the racial element. You're saying it's the single factor that caused the attention. I disagree.
If we don't have a justice system, why did you start a thread calling for justice in this case?
should we allow isolated heinous crimes dictate our politics or how we live? Think about how passionate you get when defending the Muslim community when there's a terrorist attack. Why don't you defend the white community the same way? You know it's foolish to make blanket statements and even worse to allow misconceptions to dictate politics. The time is now.
it's laughable to say just half. I bet you think it was just the conservative half too, right hahaha? I'm not saying there wasn't a little more to the story, but race was the overwhelming driver of the story. Racial politics is what drives your political party.
Because the white community doesn't need defending. Are you kidding me? Speak to a American Muslim about how their lives have changed after 9/11. Then speak to a white american about how their lives have changed after Rodney King or Jasper. Or how their lives haven't changed, rather.
It would be one thing if racism wasn't still a huge problem. Maybe its not the same it was in the past but there is still plenty of systematic racism in our criminal justice system to make it a huge problem that touches a huge portion of the black population.
So now we're nit picking numbers? Sorry I was off by two percent. Less than half. http://m.rasmussenreports.com/public...ct_34_disagree
Keep making this a partisan issue if you want but just because I find you incapable of grasping nuance and too easily swayed by the Right Wing sources you're clearly getting your marching orders from doesn't mean I'm a democrat.

It is not a national media story until Obama speaks out on it and sheds a tear. Until Obama says "if I had a son, he would look like Chris", it's not a big deal.
