600,000 is a more accurate figure. And strike "women," too; IIRC there was one female combat death during the entire Civil War (a resident of Gettysburg who was hit by a stray bullet.)

and that doesn't include civilians. Most war wounds and several diseases were fatal back then because they didn't have antibiotics. I'd imagine war wounds claimed several lives due to infection and complications after the war was over.

If they hate it here so bad, they've had ample opportunity to go back to the motherland, but I guess playing the victim card is too easy and profitable.

seriously though i think if you look at all the stories from that war and before and after - Sherman's March, the Underground Railroad, Liberia (albeit a complete cluster ), the # of non slave-owning whites who died, all the families torn apart, the complete destruction of the South and parts of the North...you'll find that a simple apology would have been more than enough, but some things remain consistent throughout time, and that is we're subject to the whims and fancies of politicians who turn us against each other for self gain.
we're all the same anyway. we think, we eat, we , we all have families to look after. we procreate. life goes on. i won't base mine on how i was born, but what i choose to do with what i have.
