Anybody got any insight on how/why he fell off? I remember him being a decent player before he went to Europe. Then when he came back it was like he stole money from Phoenix. I don't remember him having any major injuries or a bad at ude. Am I wrong?

Could be a good backup 3 if he can regain his Hawks form.

Dude can't hit a shot. Once he lost the "potential" label and left Atlanta to play overseas, he's been out of sight/out of mind. His game has not improved offensively, which is why he is not currently signed by anyone. I'm glad the Spurs are seeing what's out there before committing to that 15th spot. I don't think he is the answer, but at this point the Spurs must leave no stone unturned.

If the Spurs didn't have total faith in CoJo going into next season, then maybe RC should have gotten in on the hunt for a backup PG a little sooner rather than the last friggin week of August. And just maybe something should have been done about all the wannabe backups this team already has cluttering the roster before making decisions to find new ones. Childress is DONE, DONE, DONE!!! How's the search for a backup SF going RC????? This off season has been texbook bush-league GM'ing at its finest.

Damn, I'd love a guy with this type of defensive intensity and results on the second unit.

Childress is for sure worth a workout. The key would be to see how is his jumpshot. Before going to Europe, and despite an ugly shooting mechanic, he wasn't that bad in that area. After his Euro sting, he wasn't able to hit anything outside the restricted area.

If he can be back the average shooter he was before going in Europe, Childress would a terrific backup SF.

Players like Childress, I wish I could go back in time and somehow change how they shoot the ball. I mean who in did he look up to and/or watch growing up that shot like that??

Childress hasn't been credible in the league since he left the hawks. What's even more shocking is the amount of posters who shoot down players because they aren't good defensively are flipping on players like Belinelli and Childress. Ignoring stats and turning to you tube to find random highlights of a player playing a snippet of defense pretty much defies logic. Then, those same posters will turn around and dog a player like Antawn Jamison, who provides the same defense but, more offense for about the same price.

I always liked his demeanor and personality, which made me think the spurs would have have gone after him a long time ago. Alway struck me a someone like Okafur wh picked up on the business of basketball deal, and used the game for personal gain, just as much as his team was pimping him out.

that said, that he hasn't latched on somewhere Makes me worry that his offense must be THAT much more of a weakness. But for a back up SF? Could be worse.

No, if he plays like Nando in high heels and Pop plays him, it might not be worse.

    Sure, why not?

Spurs need to fill about 15 to 17 minutes a night behind Kawhi. Get maybe 8 to 10 from a free agent and then 5 to 9 from borrowing from your guard rotation.

After the Kirilenko deal flamed out, this is where the Spurs are headed.

I'm sure Chip could give some pointers on his jumper but he would probably go through a slump during the process before we would see any benefits during the season.

Bowen was a terrible shooter early on with the Spurs but became a decent corner three point shooter. If Childress can replicate what Bowen did, the Spurs get a steal.

This is a smart move to workout Childress and see what he's got. The Spurs have enough shooters where I don't it is a huge concern that he can't shoot the rock. Regardless, the Spurs need to have someone that spells Kawhi.
