What do you guys think about the possibility of bringing back Richard Jefferson? Before you guys get get mad and think this is a far fetched idea, let me remind you that both Sean ****** and Avery Johnson (two guys, whose numbers are in the rafters) along with Brent Barry were all traded away from the Spurs and came back for a second go-around and played key roles in 3 of our 4 les. Let that sink in for a second. I'm thinking Richard Jefferson + 2014 1st Round Pick for Nando De Colo + Patty Mills.

Here's why it makes sense for both teams...

    JAZZ:
The Jazz were a pretty good team last year. I know they didn't make the playoffs, but they have some promise. In other words, they are in a position to make a run this upcoming year. They have some young front court players and Hayward is blossoming into quite a two-way player. Not to mention their first round pick this past draft in Trey Burke.

I've heard from sources (within the Jazz organization) that they aren't expected to re-sign Jamaal Tinsley. I doubt they want to throw Burke right into the fire, and that's where NDC comes in. NDC could start while they groom Burke for the future. This trade also frees up some cap space, allowing them some flexibility -- maybe a sign and trade could be in the works to bring in a veteran or something. Plus, Mills is rotting on our bench. He (I like to compare him to Eric Blesdoe) definitely could be a 15-18ppg kind of player if he got the touches on a daily basis. The Jazz can use this scoring. Remember how they averaged like 80-85 ppg back in 2012 against us?

    SPURS:
Well, it's obvious for us why we need Jefferson. We let Gary Neal walk (aka the only guy would could get his own shot). We need a SG/SF combo player with some size, who won't be exposed defensively. I'm tired of these small SG (Neal, Mills, and Roger Mason Jr.) RJ could actually guard a guy like Wade or Kobe. Plus, we get a 2014 1st round pick (which we could always flip for a player later on or just take someone in the draft at 10-15).

I honestly believe that Jefferson didn't get a fair shot during his time with us. The first year was really a wash. He went from being the #1 scoring option to the 4th or 5th option. As always, it takes at least one year to learn the Spurs system (see sop re year improvements from Ginobili, Parker, and Kwahi). In his second year, he actually played pretty well (within the system and with regards to his role on the team). His scoring was much more "within the flow" of the team and he shot 44% from three.

RJ brings with him a ton of playoff experience (go-to scorer for the 2002-2003 Nets, which had back-to-back finals appearances). We won't have to worry about the "deer in the headlights look". Do I need to remind you how short our bench was in the Miami series? RJ has NBA-finals pedigree and that's the "it" factor that you can't teach.

Why not? We have the cap space to take on his contract and we will be getting a 1st round pick in return for taking on his contract. Jazz free up cap space for a sign-and-trade. RJ knows the system, has size (6'7"+), can shoot the three ball, and has NBA finals experience. With Manu declining, this means that RJ gets more touches (a role he is more familiar with... see his days in NJ and with the Bucks).

Who says no to this trade?? keep in mind how the deep this years draft is supposed to be... YES, we are taking on his contract (but it's expiring) and we're getting a 1st round pick for taking it on

Oh wow quickly you guys forgot... "taking off like jefferson catch me in the sky". Easily the most exciting player after Manu.
    oh history revisionists

I came in here to say just this. He even turned the momentum in game one for us last playoffs with the two missed FT's lol, he even helped us win a huge game one with his lack of clutch ability. He is a pussy and he sucks, period.

Manu declining, means Kawhi and Belli more touches IMO, JEFFERSON!

Is this supposed to be funny? It's not funny or creative.

It doesn't even make sense from the Jazz perspective. They need Jefferson's crazy huge contract and general tiness. They are going full tank this year.

I'm 99.999% sure this post is intended to be satire, but this is too much. Jefferson might actually be the worst and most lackadaisical defender in the NBA. His goddamn embarrassing defense is at the top of the list of reasons why the spurs had trouble in early rounds of the playoffs from 2009-2011.

Not only is it wrong to say that he would improve the spurs defensively, it's ludicrous.

First off, Kwahi and Green are our starters (along with Parker). There's no denying that anymore. RJ will most likely be on the bench (playing the Gary Neal role). What I meant to say is that RJ is 6'7" (and maybe even taller) and explosive and athletic as . I don't see any of our other guards (outside Green and Kwahi) checking a Paul Pierce or Joe Johnson or James Harden. Who do you suppose we put on scoring SG/SFs? Mills? DeColo?

    1) The Spurs aren't paying a guy 9 mill to come off the bench and play spot minutes behind Kawhi. And before you mention Jackson, just keep in mind how well that experiment went.
    2) Explosive? Athletic as ? Not anymore.
    3) So you're looking for a bench swingman who is capable of defending starter-quality players. You're basically looking for a starter swingman then.

Don't confuse space under the TAX line with actual cap space. We have ZERO cap room left. If the Spurs had enough cap room for this, they sure as would have signed AK47 instead.

so the jazz just took him to tank the season without getting anything in return, and now they give up a first to get rid of him?
