There have been plenty of notable successes over the last 2 decades or so. Cunningman, McNair, McNabb, Culpepper. Although McNair started winning when he ran less and became "air mncair." culpepper was advertised as a dual threat but his deep ball was his bread and butter. Vick is an aberration tbh
Cunningham started winning more after he broke his leg and became more of a pocket-passer, too. McNabb could run, but he used his speed more to be elusive in the pocket than as a legitimate part of the offense. In that way, he was pretty much what Rodgers has perfected.

The results are the same, success or fail, black or white. Actual running quarterbacks tend to have disappointing careers. (Vick's has been disappointing, as he was a first pick who's missed the playoffs six out of nine years as a starter.) Actual pocket-passers tend to do better. The fact that people choose to label blacks are "running" and whites as "passing" only obscures this fact.

well, we're in the "black quarterback thread" so I naturally assumed
    Indeed.

Obama is a politician and uses whatever side works in his favor. When he wants to sound intelligent and regal, he uses the white person/Carlton voice. When he's campaigning and trying to appeal to lower classes, he uses the black voice.

If Kap considers himself black, then that's fine with me. I just think he belongs in a hybrid class unlike the others, especially since raised by an all white family from ing Wisconsin/Northern Cali. Either way, I've been a fan of Kap from the start and don't consider him a monkeyballer. He's the real deal.
Dwight Howard is the real deal (on the court), too. Doesn't stop him from being a monkey-baller.

Monkey-balling is more beneficial in the NBA, i consider the NFL to be more cerebral, at least at the QB position. Howard would've probably won a le by now if not for relying so much on his monkeyballing. I actually kind of like Howard and think he'll get better under McHale, finally be a more complete player.

not a great sunday for the black qb tbh. Only EJ Manuel played well and won. Other winning QB's (Wilson, Pryor) didn't look very good

Real talk, the read option will be totally eradicated from the NFL by 2015...NFL DC's are already chewing it up for the most part.

real talk, i'm happy your squad got ej manuel. a lot of the non black posters look up to you, so ej kinda gets a pass for having mediocre or even horrible games. i doubt there will be many "lol ej" threads or posts around here.

Thanks fam...if you've watched any of the first 2 games EJ has been used almost exclusively as a pocket passer. I wasn't expecting that at all tbh and it bodes well for his longterm success in the NFL. I'd be lying if i said i didn't want to see his athleticism evey now and then, but Marrone and Hackett want him to go to that well only for escapability purposes as of now.

Not nearly as well as last year...read option offenses have looked subpar thus far this year. Like any other gimmick (wildcat, et al), give NFL DCs a year and a half of game film and they'll start exploiting its weaknesses.

  15. #115
Ya, Kaepernick hasn't been running much on the option, and Wilson has abandoned it to conserve his health(according to the announcers)..RG3 can't even run anymore, tbh..

Not just a case of DCs adjusting, but it seems like teams are afraid of their QBs getting hurt, especially with the way RG3 looks so far following his injury..

he was never a runner in college either. he is a pocket passing qb with the threat of running.

the first game of the season the 9er's didn't use the read option that much at all. the only team i see that is relying on the read option this year are the raiders.

I'm watching all these high school games, what are we seeing...yep!

Look at ND, Michigan, FSU, Miami, UCLA, Ohio State, Louisville, Clemson.

By 2020 half the QB's in the NFL will be black.

from what i have seen it's just as it was expected, dc are not calling running qbs plays because they are afraid of them getting hurt, the only time they do run is when they see they suck at passing (like kaep against the seahawks) or when the O-line can't give any protection at all (raiders). The thing is, linebackers are faster and rush less so when qbs actually decide to run, they get so close to being rammed so many times that it must send a red alert to dcs. Vick, Kae, and Smith have been beaten up pretty bad most of the time. The only one that seemed to use it properly was Wilson, but i don't expect that to last.

Terrible. EJ is a winner. He is ahead of both 2 & 3. Plus these rankings suck without perspective. Need a grade by their performance IMO, not just a rank. You can be number 3 but have a horrific game (aka Kap)

i keep the rankings vanillas. no point in going in depth for black qb's here. just a waste of keystrokes.
