Nevada Republican Admits GOP Can Only Win If Fewer People Vote
Acknowledging that young people and students—two traditionally Democratic demographics coincidentally being targeted by Republican state legislators suddenly anxious to ram through new Voter ID laws—tend to stay home in off-year elections, Nevada Assembly Minority Leader Pat Hickey (R-Reno) is ever so psyched about the Nevada GOP’s chances in 2014.
“This is a great year in an off-presidential election,” he chirped excitedly in an interview with conservative talk show host Dan Mason. “No… seemingly no Democrat on the top of the ticket against [Nevada governor Brian] Sandoval. No Harry Reid. Probably where we had a million voters turn out in 2012 we’ll have like 700,000.”
Woo-hoo! Low voter turnout! This is what democracy looks like! “A lot of minorities, a lot of younger people will not turn out in an non-presidential year,” enthused Hickey. “It’s a great year for Republicans.”
Not that it’s the best-kept secret in politics, but hearing such desperation nakedly expressed as an encouraging sign truly brings home the sad state of affairs in today’s Republican Party. It won’t be long before they’re kidnapping anyone who looks like a Democrat and dragging them away from the polls in an effort to keep them from voting — because it’s becoming increasingly clear to everyone that when more people vote, more Democrats get elected.

Repugs know they are ed by demographics, and know ACA will be a huge Dem success even in red states.

You're pretty much disenfranchised from life without photo id
Funny thing about that is AG Eric Holder requires you to show your ID to get into his Justice Department building, but says you shouldn't be required to show it to vote. His real le should be Chief of Voter Fraud.
Can you point us to some evidence of this mass voter fraud?
Why would Holder want someone to prove who they say they are in order to enter his building, but not prove it to vote. Is it less important that someone could sneak into a voting booth as opposed to sneaking into his building. If people don't have ID and YOU think it's important that they vote, well then help them get the ID. Any reasons people give for not endorsing voter ID are completely BS.
Elderly Texas Woman May Be Disenfranchised After Being Denied A Voter ID Three Times
When 84-year-old Dorothy Card was born, women had enjoyed the right to vote for less than a decade. She never took it for granted. “It just makes me known that I’m an American and I have a right to vote,” she said, recounting past elections where she’d voted. “Truman, I guess I voted for him,” Card noted.
Though she has voted for more than 60 years without incident, that streak may end in six weeks when Texas voters will consider a host of statewide ballot initiatives.
That’s because of a new voter suppression law passed by the Texas legislature in 2011 to require voters to present a particular photo ID at the polls. If a person doesn’t have a photo ID, as studies have found is true of approximately 10 percent of potential voters, he or she is not allowed to vote under the new law. Texas’ voter ID law took effect this year after the Supreme Court gutted the Voting Rights Act, negating federal efforts to block new discriminatory voting measures.
Card’s experience is emblematic of the challenge that many Texas residents have faced or will face when trying to exercise their right to vote. Because she hasn’t driven in nearly 15 years, Card doesn’t carry the most common form of
photo ID: a driver’s license. Once the voter ID law took effect, she went down to her local Department of Public Safety, the Texas agency that administers voter IDs.
She brought her do ents and thought they would issue her a voter ID without hassle. She was wrong.

btw, I hear the judges ruled 2-1 that DoJ can join as intervenor the suit against TX about rigged, disenfranchsing re-districting.
Better question is, why would you be against voter ID laws? I'm not sure I've ever seen you give your opinion on anything here. All you do is ask questions like some pesky little toddler.
Simple, because it can disenfranchise legitimate voters.
Now show us that massive vote fraud.
Sort of useless if you don't tell us what do ents she bought and why they were rejected. Do ents proving one's citizenship for a minuscule number of legal citizens may be hard to find in order to get an ID, but I believe they can be found. And even if a handful of citizens can't prove their citizenship in any way, does that mean we throw out voter ID laws because of that?
Given the effectiveness of the provisional voting systems in most places, there really isn't a need for voter ID laws other than to disenfranchise certain voters who tend to vote a certain way.
How does it do that?"
By outright denying the vote to someone who doesn't have ID.
You really couldn't figure that out?
Get off your lazy ing ass and help them get an ID then.
Why don't you? You love the law so much, you implement it..
There is already a system set up to verify voter eligibility for those without ID. I'm fine with that. No superfluous laws or extra money needed. No one needlessly disenfranchised.
Yep. I agree. That's the fiscally conservative approach. Plus, with no real evidence of large scale voter fraud, implementing voter ID would be like burning money. We have much better things we can invest in.
Just do away with all other things that require photo id and the logic against voter id makes sense.
Why should all those miserable souls without photo id be denied the opportunity to own a gun? Or terminate their pregnancy?
I have no PROOF that there is massive abortion fraud going on, but it still requires photo id for some reason.
Requiring ID to vote would go a long way to positively ensure that fraud was not being committed. To argue against that shows me you wouldn't mind a little fraud going on, because fraudsters tend to vote for your candidates, and if you ask me to prove that I'm going to tell you to GO YOURSELF!
What's abortion fraud?
And you can't apply for food stamps, welfare, open a bank account, apply for unemployment or (heaven forbid) a job, buy a house, apply for a mortgage, rent a car ..... (list goes on and on).
You'll tell me that because you have no proof whatsoever and that makes you angry.
It's a solution without a problem. All you and Darrin want to do is suppress the votes of those who tend to vote Democrat. Just admit it.
Bad example.
I just want to know how these millions of disenfranchised people get food stamps, etc.
