so now we're finally getting small forwards.
Yep, and I hope one sticks and makes the team because we need a backup SF in the worst way.

Obviously, the Spurs will have to make a choice. Do they want a player who can hold the fort defensively (Young) or do they want a player who can generate offense, but can't play a lick of defense (maggette). Corey's also only played 50 games over the last 2 seasons. At 33, his body may be breaking down. He's not very good at knocking down three's either.
Or he is probably fresh considering he didn't get a lot of run on teams that were lottery bound and were looking to develop younger players. And Maggette has barely played in the playoffs so he shouldn't have a lot of wear and tear. Also he is a good guy who would take a small role and playing for a contender could motivate him even more. I know in Detroit he was talking with their management about a future role so obviously he has a good head on his shoulders and seems to be in great physical shape. If given the opportunity to play 15 minutes a game I am confident he will contribute. I like Young on defense, but just watching him in the playoffs for Indy last season he is a liability on offense.

Yeah unless the Spurs dump one of Baynes, Mills, or De Colo, I don't see them adding Young or Maggette to the team. The Spurs will more likely save their cheap contracts for a midseason trade.
Please trade for one of these guys: Ed Davis, Anthony Randolph or Jason Thompson.

The fact that you didn't receive a reply back pretty much sums it up.

Intriguing as well. Let's wait and see if he can still delivers like how he played before. If he could regain his shooting and low-post scoring, he's not a bad option like MWP-ish type of offense though his defense is questionable. He could be nice in small ball.

Disliking Maggette on the basis that he's been somewhat overrated/overpaid is perfectly reasonable. By ramp, he's hovered around -2 for the last 4 years. That's not good. It's also not worthless.

Replacement level is normally-3/-3.5, so a -2 player has some value. Gary Neal has been a -3.5 or so player throughout his career, and Gary Neal is not completely useless. Maggette is OK for the minimum.

Although I really want defensive minded wing players that can also shoot the three and get to the rim, I guess you can't be too choosey with that 15 roster spot , I'm still very intrigued by Maggette. I really like that he is someone that can get to the free throw line on the offensive end. That's something we need more of too, someone that can draw fouls and get to the free throw line, so I like that aspect of his game. To make the team though, he's going to have to put a lot more effort in on the defensive end and show that he wants that spot.

Also, wasn't Chip Engellend his shooting coach at one point when he played for the Clippers?

He may be the last player signed, hence, the 15th roster spot, but he won't be getting 15th roster spot minutes. He'll get more minutes than Mills, Baynes and De Crapo and will most likely be a fixture in the rotation by mid season.

Sam Young has to get his 3 pt % up to 36-38% if he wants a chance to make this team (career 28% from long distance in his 6 years)

Considering that the Spurs were a true contender the last two seasons, the off-season was surprisingly quiet tbh . . . then again it was complicated to find a good SF, when everyone knows it's just for a limited role.

There were articles this summer on how Maggette wanted to have a FO career after his playing days. If the training camp shows that he is done, I wouldn't be surprised to see Spurs offering him a FO spot.

Shades of Danny Ferry and Sean Marks, plus he has been mentioned as being a great mentor by other teammates. This could be quite a bridge between team and FO beyond Pop.

Still looking for the audio from the "Off the Dribble" radio show in August where he mentioned he was talking with the Spurs. I did find this however:

Corey Maggette talks what he can bring to the table for an NBA team

It's from the same show, just different date.

^ Maggette is the #90 white jersey with the red socks. He hasn't his usual #50.
