The word is porneia. It refers Jewish betrothal "divorce" as in Joseph and Mary in Matthew 1. This is why Jesus was mocked for being born of fornication (porneia)--not sexual immorality--in John 8:41.
The wide translation of porneia is incorrect. Adultery is moichea, not porneia. Jesus used both words in contra distinction.
Jesus said unto them, "What did Moses command you?"
"Moses said to write her a bill of divorcement and send her away."
Jesus replied, "Moses said this BUT *I* say..."

My views have plenty of merit. This was the position of the faith from Christ to Paul to Origen etc etc etc until Erasmus, the heretic, was adopted by Luther.
It doesn't matter what is popular. It matters what is right. They way is narrow. Few find the truth. You can almost universally reject the popular view. The crowd was always wrong.
