Kabongo would be a nice player for the Toros. He should also help their attendance.
First thing that entered my mind when I read the tweet. Not only a player with some potential that they can develop but he can also pull the Longhorn crowd to games.

    Nice move by the Spurs.

    Parker/Joseph/Mills
    Green/Belinelli/De Colo
Leonard/Ginobili/Journeyman wing to be signed later
    Duncan/Bonner/Ayres
    Splitter/Diaw/Baynes

    that sound right?
Yep, although I think Manu will play SF some, I'm not sure if he won't be first off the bench for Danny. Then Belinelli comes in for Kawhi, and Manu switches to the 3. Will be interesting to see the rotations. Just don't see Manu playing SF exclusively.

Might not add up to anything but he could end up on Spurs training camp roster:

Orlando MendezValdez ‏@OMV20 26 Sep Had an awesome time at the Spurs practice facility this morning.

Unsure if he is still under contract with UV Xalapa but could be given a camp invite with Spurs to showcase his skills for another team or go to the Toros. (Mendez-Valdez attended Lanier High School in San Antonio, Texas, where he graduated in 2004. He was named the San Antonio Player of the year his senior year, and his jersey number was retired in 2009).

Here is a story from the SAEN on him:

    http://www.expressnews.com/news/loca...c83d95dc057#/0

He was on the Mexico NT at the FIBA Americas, his stats:

    http://www.fiba.com/pages/eng/fe/14/...8/profile.html

There would be some connection if he went to the Toros:

    Dan McCarney ‏@danmccarneysaen 24 Sep
Interesting SA tie with new Toros coach: He was Orlando Mendez-Valdez's head coach in last season at W. Kentucky. For whatever that's worth

The Toros will be a very good place for Kabongo to continue his development and if he improves enough, Spurs will still be able to re-sign later this year.
Unfortunately, unlike Spurs draftee CoJo, MK is snagable by ANY team, since he will be on a Toros contract.

That's right in theory but in fact, most of the time, agents warn the parent team that their client is close to sign with another team. The parent team has then the opportunity to keep that player provided they are ready to offer him a contract.

I actually think that kabongo has a higher ceiling than joseph. what cojo has demonstrated to us is that he has a very strong work ethic. maybe that rubs off on kabongo.
Agreed. He's got far superior ball handling/play making skills. The knock on him seems to be work ethic, which is apparently why he didn't make Canada's team for the tournament of the Americas, despite the fact that they didn't have a backup capable of sufficiently running an offense.

Nonetheless, this is an outstanding move by the Spurs; to, for free, get a player who was widely regarded as a lottery caliber talent just over a year ago. They can let him play big minutes and develop on the Toros and if he blows up and they sense he may get signed by another team, they can trade one of De Colo/Mills to make room. If he makes impresses enough, he's got a shot to be the third PG the following season, as it's unlikely De Colo/Mills will return.

The #Suns added wing James Nunnally, 23, to the camp roster for more shooting. The UCSB product shot 63% on 3s for Miami at summer league.

    Damn!
I was hoping he would come here!
They got him for 3point shooting, but he'll give them the added benefit of a lock down defender!
I wonder if the Spurs even asked to come to camp?

    Green > Nunnally
    Oh I agree.
I wanted him to back up Kawhi.
Nunnally plays SF/SG and is similar to Bowen.

According to the Toronto Star Kabongo has been invited to Spurs training camp.
And after reading about him, I have to change my opinion and agree he seems to have more upside, play making, passing, and defensive ability than Cojo even though he is shorter by at least an inch.

Talent and upside are nothing without work ethic to realize them. Hopefully, the organization can knock some sense into this kid.

wow, Maggette is ripped in that picture. Don't have to worry about him being in shape. Everyone that is saying he is done, what are you basing that on? I haven't watched him at all for quite a while, does he not look good out there physically? I'm thinking it might just be the teams he was on and maybe he was just drained mentally playing on bad teams the last few years. He might become revitalized getting a chance to play for a team like the Spurs.

If both Maggette and Young play well in training camp, I'd definitely like to see the Spurs move someone and try to keep both.

The 15th roster spot battle should clearly be between Young and Maggette.

Cousin, Fells and Kabongo could end up with the Toros. Nwaelele is Air Force Alumni, so I guess his signing is somewhat related to Spurs starting their training camp there.

I remember thinking Marcus Cousin was an interesting prospect during his last stint here. I would definitely like to see him stick around on the Toros.

I don't know anything about Nwaelele or Fells. There's not a lot of "big names" like last season's training camp roster.

I'd argue that Mags and Sam are fairly "big" for training camp invites...
