Yeah...this is bull . Blair was pissed at Pop for not playing him more and cried about it repeatedly. He's not trying to do Pop or the Spurs any favors.

Plus it was the reporter who insinuated the word "endorsement"

That tweet has an obvious major typo. This should be the corrected version:

News of the day: Spurs free agent Sam Young says former Pitt teammate DeJuan Blair actually gave Whataburger a strong endorsement.

why the did u and the rest of spurstalk expect him to be the next coming of david robinson and tim duncan? where did all of these random expectations come form. he was a late round pick with no knees and is 6'5", that should already tell u what he was gonna do before he even step foot on the basketball court

I did not man? You said you, I never said he was nor even near them? I agree with you there in what you said and you are right in the second part.

Blair was never that bad. He's a legit third string Chuck Hayes-type PF/Center.

Yeah, except Hayes might be the best post defender in the NBA. Blair is the worst. But other than that I completely agree.

blair simply wasn't good enough to be in the rotation, and wasn't a good enough character to keep quiet about it.

The spurs also were drafting a guy who was effective if not moderately explosive on offense. Which he was for most of his rookie year when he played. He was asked during the offseason to stay in shape and develop a jumpshot out to 12 feet or so which he did neither. During the year as he got more playing time and starts due to the decline of McDyess he became much less offensivle effective as he was seeinng developed complete players when facing starters. Add in a tendancy to turnovers and to loose his head and man at times along with obviously declining knees, and it was obvious what direction Blair was heading.

All in all I don't blame blair to much for the way things turned out with his knees the odds of him ever being the next Barkley as some spurs fans projected were slim. It also turned out that a thinner blair in his 3rd year though better on his knees was not as effective of a rebounder nor as good in close to the basket. I don't know why a 6'7" center with questionable dribbling skills decided to develop a tear drop over a 12 foot jumper, but Blair did. All he really needed was that shot and then instead of having to play in close and have his knees take a pounding so much he could have played much more facing. It also didn't help that many nights he no longer possessed the quickness to even stay in front of his man let alone disrupt that guy in his progress toward the basket.

It was also a case of no longer being able to keep such a limited player next to a declining Duncan.

Blair got into Pops dog house the second year because he got out of shape (fat)and his
foul trouble (the reach in) as soon as he got into the game. Last year he knew it
was his last ,he slimmed down and played smarter. In last years playoffs he sat because
of one thing he can't fix. He needs about 5" more in height.

If Blair had developed a consistent mid range jump shot, I would have wanted to keep him in SA. You could potentially use him as an old school 3.

Diaw didn't have a chance to rebound the ball because he had to contest Lebron's jumper after TP lost him on the screen. Manu was the only one to get in position and try and box out and get the rebound over Bosh. Why I'll always stand by my opinion that even if Duncan was in during that play, same thing happens, because of the breakdown in defense right from the start.
